Steve Holland served Midwestern State University in many capcities during his 21-year tenure with the institution.

Foremost, he carried athletic director duties for 13 years after taking over the reins from Dr. Gerald Stockton in 1984 until his retirement in 1997.

Holland was the co-director of the NAIA National Championship Soccer Tournament in 1982, '83, '86 and '87 which included two times before becoming the athletic director.

During his time as AD, he initiated MSU's first academic counseling and tutoring program for athletes which raised the grade-point average shortly after to 2.8.

Holland also planned and implemented the school's first drug testing program for athletes.

He also resided over the initiation of men's and women's track and field, women's volleyball and women's soccer as new varsity sports and the reinstatement of football after a 32-year absence to usher Midwestern State into the current NCAA Division II era.

Holland joined the MSU staff in 1976 as Assistant Director of University of Affairs and became director in 1979. During that time his duties included fund raising, ex-student affairs, public information and public relations.

Before joining the MSU staff, he was employed at KFDX-TV3 as a newscaster, sports director and editorial writer.

Holland also carried duties as Director of University Development and as an instructor of communications during his tenure as athletics director.
