Jim Leupold (1981-85) became Midwestern State's first ever Academic All American when he gained the NAIA honor in 1985, according to former Sports Information Director D.L. Ligon.

The Deming, N.M. native helped the Indians to a memorable campaign during his senior season as MSU posted a 21-5 team record and placed ninth at the 1985 NAIA National Tournament.
