Schumann is one of the most prolific scorers in the storied history of the Midwestern State men's basketball program.

Schumann graduated as MSU's all-time leading scorer with 1,596 points while playing aside legends O'Neal Weaver and Cotton Fitzsimmons. He is still stands as the school's ninth all-time leading scorer.

The Kampsville, Ill. native guided the Indians to an NAIA Elite Eight appearance while averaging 20.2 points per game during the 1955-56 season after averaging a career-best 22.5 points a game during his sophomore campaign of 1953-54.

Schumann's journey to Midwestern was an interesting one.

After serving two year in the U.S. Army, he began his association with Fitzsimmons at Hannibal-LaGrange in Missouri where the two were both junior college All Americans and both were inducted into the 1985 National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame in 1985, the second year of that HOF's existence.

Schumann and his sweet left-handed shot still have a place in the NJCAA record book. He scored 159 points in the 1953 national tournament for an average of 39.7 points a game including a high of 47.

Both Schumann and Fitzsimmons moved on as teammates at Midwestern.

He went on to teach and coach for 30 years at Kinderhook High School in Hull, Ill. before retiring in 1987.

Schumann passed away at the age of 83 in 2010.
