Willis Breaks 100-Meter Record, As Mustangs Post Five PR's during Day Two of conference championships

CANYON, Texas – Midwestern State Track & Field enjoyed five personal records and a new school record during the second day of the Lone Star Conference Championships.

Kyja Willis broke a school record in the 100-meter dash, as both Willis and Kennedy Johnson qualified for the finals. The junior clocked 11.94 (7th place) on the stopwatch, doing so in +1.7 legal wind. Willis posted just the second wind legal sub 12.00 time in program history, beating out the previous school record held by Corinne Thorpe (11.97). Kennedy Johnson posted a faster time (11.85, +2.7), setting an all-conditions personal best to take 5th place in the prelims.

Jadyn Dangerfield led a trio of Mustangs to qualify for the 800 meters. The senior posted the third fastest mark in the prelims (2:11.62), while Jessie Heath (2:15.26, 7th) and Maggie Neal (2:15.45, 8th) both qualified directly after finishing in the top-2 of their heats. Despite missing the finals, Sophia Lee posted a personal best in the event, racing to a 2:16.20 time. Lee's time moves into 7th in the MSU all-time performance list.

Brianna Estrada and Abby Cavender each finished with personal bests in their respective events. Estrada finished the 400 meters in 56.28, taking 12th place and moving up to 4th in the MSU all-time performance list. Cavender raced their fastest career time in the 400-meter hurdles, posting a time of 1:05.08. The time moves Cavender to 5th in the MSU all-time performance list.

Rosalene Reyes Perez ended the evening scoring points in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The senior raced to 6th place with a time of 12:08.47. Scoring three points in the event takes the Mustangs total to 19 points overall.
