Track & Field Wraps Up LSC Championships With Several Scoring Performances

CANYON, Texas – Midwestern State Track & Field clocked several notable performances and reshuffled the all-time performance list during the final day of the 2026 Lone Star Conference OTF Championships.
 
On the track, the day started with the 4x100 meter relay team taking 5th place (46.57). The group of Karissa Nixon, Kennedy Johnson, Hailee Janzen, and Brianna Estrada posted the fastest time ran by the Mustangs this season, while also being the second fastest time in the MSU all-time performance list. The 4x400 meter relay team also ran a season best for the Mustangs, also taking fifth place (3:45.59). The team of Brianna Estrada, Maggie Neal, Jadyn Dangerfield, and Sophia Lee won their heat, while posting the 3rd fastest time in the MSU all-time performance list.
 
The Mustangs scored points in the 800 meters, as Jessie Heath, Jadyn Dangerfield, and Maggie Neal all improved their times from the prelims from yesterday. Heath upped their best career time to 2:08.81, taking 4th place in the championships. Dangerfield (2:10.75, 5th) and Neal (2:11.77, 6th) followed just behind to score points, with the former setting a personal best in the event. Kennedy Johnson closed out the weekend scoring points in the 100-meter finals (12.02, 6th) and 200-meter finals (24.86, 8th). Kyja Willis joined Johnson in the 100-meter finals and took 7th in the race (12.12).
 
Ella Pando scored points in the 5,000 meters, finishing the race in 7th with a time of 18:54.13. Grace Pineda (19:18.60, 11th), Perla Flores (19:42.10, 17th), and Isabel Hernandez (20:06.78, 21st) all raced alongside Pando in the 5K, while Pineda took 7th in the 1,500 meters (4:42.94) to score points for the Mustangs. In the high jump, Diana Kelley registered a personal best with a leap of 5' 1.0" (1.55m). The freshman moved up to second in the MSU all-time performance list.
 
The Mustangs ended the weekend with 49 points in team scoring to take seventh place at the meet. Johnson led the Mustangs scoring 13 points towards team scoring (TJ – 8 pts, 100m – 3 pts, 200m – 1 pt, and 4x100 R – 1 pt). MSU now waits for the NCAA DII Track & Field selections, with the announcement made on May 12 on NCAA.com.
