Track & Field Claims Victory in 200m, 3000m, and 4x400 at JD Martin Invitational

The Mustangs highlighted the single day meet with eight PR's

NORMAN, Okla. – Several individuals and relays teams found the podium for Midwestern State Track & Field at the JD Martin Invitational on Thursday evening at Mosier Indoor Facility. The Mustangs competed against several Division I opponents, including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tarleton State, and Tulsa, along with Lone Star Conference opponent Oklahoma Christian.
 
The Mustangs dominated the 200 meters, with Hailee Janzen, Kennedy DeHorney, and Jessie Heath finishing 1-2-3, respectively. Janzen finished with a time of 25.59, while DeHorney was fractions of second behind with a 25.62. DeHorney's time moved to ninth in the MSU Indoor Performance List. Heath turned in an indoor personal best to take third place in the meet (26.08). Heath followed their strong performance in the 200m, finishing second in the 400m with a time of 56.82. The mark is the third fastest time in MSU Indoor Performance List, and was a new indoor personal best for Heath. Alongside Hetah in the 400m, Maggie Neal finished 7th with a personal best time in the event (1:00:45).
 
In the 60m sprint, Kennedy Johnson led Midwestern State with a 7.82s time, but DeHorney reached the finals after winning their heat with a time of 7.86s (posted a 7.87 time in the final). Karissa Nixon (7.87) and Janzen (7.95) both posted times under eight seconds. Shalisa Williams finished with a personal best time of 8.25 in the 60m. Williams took home fifth in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line in 9.19 in the final. The junior won their heat with a time of 9.22 to reach the final.
 
Isabel Hernandez picked up a pair of PR's, racing to a 2:34.88 in the 800m, while posting a 5:36.78 time in the mile. Grace Pineda (5:09.78) and Jadyn Dangerfield (5:11.35) joined Hernandez in the mile, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Dangerfield's mark in the mile is a personal best, and is seventh in the MSU Indoor Performance List. Three MSU runner's finished in the top four during the 3,000 meters, with Pineda winning the event with a time of 10:39.98. Jazira Perez finished second behind Pineda with a career best time in the event (11:03.12), while Jackie Earley also posted a personal best time to take fourth (11:32.69).

Diana Kelley jumped just short of a personal best in the high jump, leaping to a mark of 1.53m (5' 0.25"). Johnson competed in both the long jump (4.96m, 16' 3.25") and the triple jump (11.57m, 37' 11.5"). The 4x400 relay teams took the top two spots, as Team A posted a time of 4:01.42 (Nixon, Dangerfield, Williams, and Heath), while Team B was not far behind with a time of 4:02.73 (Janzen, Neal, Jones, DeHorney).

The Mustangs will take a short break before competing in the final tuneup before the conference championships on Feb. 27-28, returning to Pittsburg State competing in the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic on Feb. 13-14.
