No. 5-ranked Mustangs face Harding and Northeastern State (Okla.)

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Midwestern State, ranked No. 5 in the nation, has two more dual matches on the road this weekend after earning victories at Rockhurst and No 8-ranked Washburn last week. The Mustangs meet Harding at Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday at 4 p.m. and tangle with Northeastern State (Okla.) at Edmond Racquet Club at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Senior Jessica Binzari was named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week for the first time in her career after winning two doubles matches and two singles matches to propel the Mustangs to a 2-0 start.
Binzari is ranked No. 6 among NCAA Division II singles players and is one of three Mustangs to start the season at 2-0 in singles.

Senior Anda Ghinga and freshman Alessia Dolce were unscathed in their two singles matches last week.

Ghinga did not drop a set at No. 4 singles, and Dolce clinched the victory over the No 11-ranked Ichabods of Washburn with a three-set win at No. 6 singles after cruising to a victory at Rockhurst the previous day.
Senior Hannah Yip played No. 1 singles for the Mustangs in each of their first two dual matches and took the point at Washburn, defeating Leonie Floeth, 6-4, 6-3.

No. 8-ranked Sofia Giraldo played No. 3 singles for the Mustangs and handled Zuzanna Szmyd of Rockhurst, 6-3, 6-0. The sophomore from Colombia lost a tight three-setter against Daniela Tijaro of Washburn.
Camila Garcia, who is also from Colombia, made her MSU debut in style with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Daniela Lentisco of Rockhurst. Peyton Kipper of Washburn defeated Garcia in straight sets.

Midwestern State finished last weekend with a 4-2 record in doubles. The Mustangs swept the doubles at Rockhurst. Binzari and Ghinga won No. 2 doubles at Washburn, but the Stangs fell short in the other two matches.
Midwestern State is 3-1 all-time against Harding, which enters the dual on Friday with a 3-1 record, including a 4-3 win over Missouri State.

The Bisons are coming off a 5-1 win over Southwest Baptist, and Karli Roux is undefeated with a 3-0 record at No. 2 singles.

Harding is 6-6 in doubles to start the season. Sofia Sarmiento Ruiz and Madison Stafford have opened season 3-1 at No. 2 doubles.

Midwestern State is 6-19 in its all-time series with Northeastern State (Okla.). The Mustangs have won four of the last five meetings, including a 5-2 triumph at MSU Tennis Center in March of 2022.

The Riverhawks have lost their first three dual matches of the season, including a 6-1 to No. 16-ranked Angelo State and a 6-1 loss to Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Senior Tegan Heaton has both wins at singles in 18 matches for the Riverhawks, and Northeastern State is 1-8 in doubles matches.

Midwestern State is scheduled to play a scrimmage at Collin College in Plano, Texas, on Monday at 2 p.m.
