First Serve
Midwestern State meets top-ranked Columbus State in the national quarterfinals for the second-straight season. First serve at the Sanlando Park Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs is slated for 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22.
The winner meets the Hawaii Pacific/Southwest Baptist winner at noon on Thursday.

Tourney History
The Mustangs make their ninth appearance in the Round of 16 while advancing to the national quarterfinals on five occasions (2006, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018). The Maroon and Gold have never advanced past the Elite Eight.
Mustangs Ranked No. 20 Entering Tourney
Midwestern State continued to hover at the bottom of the top 25, dropping one spot to No. 20 in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings released last Wednesday.

Angel Palacios remained at No. 2 in the singles rankings while the doubles tandem of sophomore
Alberto Diaz and freshman

MSU won its fifth postseason tournament title in team history (2001, 2006, 2013, 2018) and its first back-to-back crown with a 4-2 comeback over Cameron on May 4 at the Waco Regional Tennis & Fitness Center.

Dillon Pineda was a two-way, first team performer while sophomore

Ben Westwick were tabbed the Lone Star Conference's newcomer and freshman of the year, respectively, as the league released its postseason honors on Thursday.

Coach
Scott Linn garnered the conference's coach of the year honors, becoming the first men's coach in LSC history to win the award three-straight seasons. Linn guided Midwestern State to a 19-5 record and a second-straight LSC Postseason Tournament title.
Palacios named regional ITA Player to Watch
Junior
Angel Palacios was awarded the ITA's Player to Watch award for the South Central Region. Palacios joins Kacper Boborykin (2014) as the only recipients of the honor for MSU.
A two-time, first team all-conference performer, Palacios became the highest ranked singles player in MSU history. The Piedras Negras native spent most of the season ranked No. 2 in the Oracle/ITA polls.
He posted an 18-5 record at the No. 1 flight in singles for the second most single-season wins in team history. The Mustangs front-man has secured 10 wins over nationally ranked opponents, including victories over Indianapolis' No. 5 Renato Lima, West Florida's No. 8 Serder Bojadjiev, Cameron's No. 8 Vinicius Santos and St. Mary's No. 18 Jeremiah Gonzalez.
Pineda Repeats as Arthur Ashe winner
Senior
Dillon Pineda received the regional Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship award for the second-straight season.
The Arthur Ashe Leadership and Sportsmanship award recognizes outstanding individuals in all divisions at the regional and national level, dating back to 1982. The award goes to men's and women's players who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements.
A two-time, two-way all-conference performer and three-time LSC Sportsmanship Player of the Year, Pineda and former standout
Luke Joyce (2012) remain the only recipients of the honor in team history.
Doubles Decider
The doubles point has proved to be decisive for the Mustangs this season. MSU Texas is 16-2 when grabbing the early edge and 3-3 when falling into a hole.

Pineda and Palacios Reach No. 100
Senior
Dillon Pineda became the 12
th member of the 100 win club on April 5 against UT Permian Basin. The Allen native swept Marcos Silva, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 2 line in singles to reach the milestone.
Pineda owns a 47-35 singles record and 66-33 doubles record in his four-year career at MSU Texas.
Junior
Angel Palacios joined Pineda as the 13
th member of the 100-win club on April 19 with a 6-2 win in doubles over Washburn's Chase Brill and Bradley Eidenmueller to open the doubles competition.
Palacios needs two singles wins to match Brett Emerson's single-season record of 20 at the No. 1 flight.
Martinez Roca Hits 20
Sophomore
Alex Martinez Roca became the first singles player in program history with back-to-back 20-win seasons. Following a 21-4 campaign as a freshman, the Castelldefels, Spain, native owns a 22-2 record in 2019, winning 13-straight.
