Tourney History
The Mustangs have claimed four tournament crowns in program history, with two coming under
Scott Linn.
Â
MSU Texas has advanced to the finals on nine occasions, including each of the last three trips.
Â
The Maroon and Gold brought home the trophy in 2001, 2006, 2013 and 2018. A win this week would mark the first back-to-back run in program history.
Â
Regional Shakedown
The NCAA DII Men's Tennis Committee kept the South Central Region rankings the same from last week with Midwestern State holding at No. 3 behind Cameron and St. Edward's.
Â
The top four teams from the South Central Region will advance to the NCAA Tournament with the top two teams serving as hosts for opening round action May 11-12 at their campus site. The Heartland Conference is the lone league in the region to receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with a required five teams in its conference. Two teams from each of the eight regions will advance to the NCAA Championship site to vie for a national title, May 21-24, at the Sanlando Park Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.
Â
Mustangs Ranked No. 20 Entering Tourney
Midwestern State continued to hover at the bottom of the top 25, dropping one spot to No. 20 in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings released on Wednesday.
Â
Junior
Angel Palacios remained at No. 2 in the singles rankings while the doubles tandem of sophomore
Alberto Diaz and freshman
Ben Westwick dropped nine spots to No. 24.
Â
Doubles Decider
The doubles point has proved to be decisive for the Mustangs this season. MSU Texas is 14-2 when grabbing the early edge and 2-3 when falling into a hole. Midwestern has won the swing point in five-straight matches.
Â
Pineda and Palacios Reach No. 100
Senior
Dillon Pineda became the 12th member of the 100 win club on April 5 against UT Permian Basin. The Allen native swept Marcos Silva, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 2 line in singles to reach the milestone.
Â
Pineda owns a 45-35 singles record and 63-33 doubles record in his four-year career at MSU Texas.
Â
Junior
Angel Palacios joined Pineda as the 13th member of the 100-win club on April 19 with a 6-2 win in doubles over Washburn's Chase Brill and Bradley Eidenmueller to open the doubles competition.
Â
Palacios needs four singles wins to match Brett Emerson's single-season record of 20 at the No. 1 flight.
Â
Martinez Roca Hits 20
