First Serve
Midwestern State and UT Permian Basin meet for the third time this season with a trip to the NCAA DII Round of 16 on the line. The Mustangs host the Falcons at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the MSU Tennis Center.
 
With a win, the Maroon and Gold advance to the NCAA Championships site of the Sanlando Park Tennis Center in Altamonte Springs, Fla., from May 21-24.
 
Last Time Out
MSU rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down 13th-ranked Cameron in the Lone Star Conference Championship and win the team's fifth tournament title.
 
Meeting No. 3 With UTPB
MSU swept UTPB in singles after dropping the doubles point in the first meeting this season on April 5 in Odessa. The Mustangs downed the Falcons 4-0 in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament on May 3.
 
The Mustangs and Falcons meet for the third time this season as MSU won the regular season meeting in Odessa (5-2) on April 5 before eliminating the Falcons in the quarterfinals of the LSC Championships (4-0) last weekend.
 
Midwestern State is 7-0 all-time against UTPB. Sunday's meeting marks the first postseason clash between the squads.

Tourney History
The Mustangs make their 17th overall and seventh consecutive postseason appearance in 22 years as a NCAA Division II member. MSU advanced to the national tournament site on eight occasions including five national quarterfinal showings (2006, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2018).
 
Midwestern hosts its sixth NCAA Tournament match in the last seven seasons and is 5-1 all-time on its home courts in the postseason.
 
Mustangs Ranked No. 20 Entering Tourney
Midwestern State continued to hover at the bottom of the top 25, dropping one spot to No. 20 in the Oracle/ITA National Rankings released last Wednesday.
 
Junior Angel Palacios remained at No. 2 in the singles rankings while the doubles tandem of sophomore Alberto Diaz and freshman Ben Westwick dropped nine spots to No. 24.
 
Back 2 Back
MSU Texas won its fifth postseason tournament title in team history (2001, 2006, 2013, 2018) and its first back-to-back crown with a 4-2 comeback over Cameron on Saturday.
 
Six Receive All-LSC Honors
Senior Dillon Pineda was a two-way, first team performer while sophomore Alberto Diaz and freshman Ben Westwick were tabbed the Lone Star Conference's newcomer and freshman of the year, respectively, as the league released its postseason honors on Thursday.

Coach Scott Linn garnered the conference's coach of the year honors, becoming the first men's coach in LSC history to win the award three-straight seasons. Linn guided Midwestern State to an 18-5 record and a second-straight LSC Postseason Tournament title.
 
Doubles Decider
The doubles point has proved to be decisive for the Mustangs this season. MSU is 15-2 when grabbing the early edge and 3-3 when falling into a hole.
 
Senior Dillon Pineda and sophomore Nolan McCaig lead the team with a 15-4 record at the No. 2 flight. The duo of senior Denney Norrie and junior Angel Palacios ranks second on the team with a 13-6 mark at No. 3. MSU Texas' top-flight of Alberto Diaz and Ben Westwick boasts an 11-7 record from the No. 1 slot.
 
Pineda and Palacios Reach No. 100
Senior Dillon Pineda became the 12th member of the 100 win club on April 5 against UT Permian Basin. The Allen native swept Marcos Silva, 6-3, 6-0, at the No. 2 line in singles to reach the milestone.
 
Pineda owns a 46-35 singles record and 65-33 doubles record in his four-year career at MSU Texas.
 
Junior Angel Palacios joined Pineda as the 13th member of the 100-win club on April 19 with a 6-2 win in doubles over Washburn's Chase Brill and Bradley Eidenmueller to open the doubles competition.
 
Palacios needs three singles wins to match Brett Emerson's single-season record of 20 at the No. 1 flight.
 
Martinez Roca Hits 20
Sophomore Alex Martinez Roca became the first singles player in program history with back-to-back 20-win seasons. Following a 21-4 campaign as a freshman, the Castelldefels, Spain, native owns a 22-2 record in 2019, winning 13-straight.
