CANYON, Texas – Midwestern State Track & Field will compete with its Lone Star Conference opponents this weekend at the 2026 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted at West Texas A&M. The three-day championships will begin on Thursday, May 7, with competition wrapping up on Saturday, May 9.
The Mustangs will compete against a handful of opponents in the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top-50. West Texas A&M leads the conference with a No. 2 ranking in the nation, while No. 16 UT Tyler is expected to challenge the Lady Buffs for the LSC crown. The Lady Buffs look to win their sixth LSC women's championship in a row, and their eighth overall. Angelo State leads all current members of the LSC with 11 conference championships, and holds a No. 28 ranking.

Midwestern State will have several athletes competing over all three days, with several athletes positioned in the top-10 in events during the regular season.
Kennedy Johnson has the furthest mark this season in the triple jump (40-7.75), breaking the school record at the Joe Gillespie Invitational. The sophomore is currently 13
th in the nation in the triple jump, and is positioned to qualify for the NCAA DII Track & Field Championships later this month. Johnson also is set to race in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100 meter relay for the Mustangs.
Jessie Heath,
Jadyn Dangerfield, and
Maggie Neal each posted provisional mark times in the 800 meters, ranking inside the top-10 in the Lone Star Conference. Midwestern has three runners inside the top-10 of LSC competitors in the 10,000 meters.

The Mustangs will use the conference championship meet as a last chance to post a time or mark to qualify for NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships, in Emporia, Kan. The three-day national championship will begin on Thursday, May 21, and wrap up Saturday, May 23.
