Track & Field Travels to Stephenville for Joe Gillespie Invitational

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Midwestern State Track & Field returns to the track following a week hiatus, traveling to Tarleton State for the Joe Gillespie Invitational, April 17-18.

During the Mustangs last race weekend, Midwestern State sent competitors to both the Texas Relays and the Bobcat Invitational. The Mustangs relay teams shined at the Texas Relays, running to notable performances in the 1600 Sprint Medley, 4x400m Relay, and 4x800m Relay. During the Bobcat Invitational, Kennedy DeHorney (100m and 200m), Kennedy Johnson (200m), and Grace Pineda (1500m) all set personal records.
 
This weekend at the Joe Gillespie Invitational, the Mustangs will race against a handful of Division I programs, along with other Division II programs, and NJCAA programs. Lone Star Conference for Angelo State will compete in Stephenville, the Mustangs and Rambelles competed against each other the David Noble Relays earlier this season.
 
Midwestern State have 45 entries over 14 events, including nine track events, three field events, and a pair of relays. Sydney Carian and Rosalene Reyes Perez will race in the 3000-meter steeplechase for the first time this season. Reyes Perez has the best seedtime of five competitors (11:27.96), while Carian will race in the event for the first time in their career. Friday evening the Mustangs will have several racers in the 1500 meters and 5000 meters, with Ella Pando, Grace Pineda, Isabel Hernandez, and Jazira Perez racing in both events.
 
Saturday features a trio of field events for the Mustangs; long jump, high jump, and triple jump. The Mustangs will race in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. MSU set a season best time in the 4x400 meters during the Texas Relays, with the team recording a time of 3:49.35 (Karissa Nixon, Maggie Neal, Jadyn Dangerfield, and Jessie Heath). The Mustangs have several competitors in the 100 meters, 400 meters, and 800 meters rounding out the day.
 
Midwestern State begin four straight weeks of competition at the Joe Gillespie Invitational, then MSU will travel to Norman, Okla. for the OU O Oring Alumni Opener on Apr. 24-25.
