NORMAN, Oklahoma – Midwestern State is one of 15 schools competing in the Oklahoma Classic at the Mosier Indoor Facility on Friday.
The Mustangs return to Oklahoma after several individuals and relay teams found the podium for Midwestern State at the JD Martin Invitational in Norman two weeks ago.
The Mustangs dominated the 200 meters, with
Hailee Janzen,
Kennedy DeHorney, and
Jessie Heath finishing 1-2-3, respectively. Janzen finished with a time of 25.59, while DeHorney was fractions of a second behind at 25.62. DeHorney's time is ninth on the MSU Indoor Performance List. Heath turned in an indoor personal best to take third place in the meet (26.08).
Heath finished second in the 400m with a time of 56.82. The mark is the third fastest time on the MSU Indoor Performance List, and a new indoor personal best for Heath. Alongside Heath in the 400m,
Maggie Neal finished 7th with a personal best time in the event (1:00:45).
In the 60m sprint,
Kennedy Johnson led Midwestern State with a time of 7.82 seconds, but DeHorney reached the finals after winning her heat with a time of 7.86 (posted a 7.87 time in the final).
Karissa Nixon (7.87) and Janzen (7.95) both posted times under eight seconds.
Shalisa Williams finished with a personal best time of 8.25 in the 60m. Williams took home fifth in the 60m hurdles, crossing the line in 9.19 seconds. The junior won her heat with a time of 9.22 to reach the final.
Isabel Hernandez picked up a pair of personal records, racing to a 2:34.88 in the 800m, while posting a 5:36.78 time in the mile.
Grace Pineda (5:09.78) and
Jadyn Dangerfield (5:11.35) joined Hernandez in the mile, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Dangerfield's mark in the mile is a personal best, and is seventh on the MSU Indoor Performance List.
Three Mustangs finished among the top four in the 3,000 meters. Pineda won the event with a time of 10:39.98.
Jazira Perez finished second with a career best time in the event (11:03.12), while
Jackie Earley also posted a personal best time to take fourth (11:32.69).
Diana Kelley was just short of a personal best in the high jump, leaping to a mark of 1.53m (5' 0.25"). Johnson competed in both the long jump (4.96m, 16' 3.25") and the triple jump (11.57m, 37' 11.5").
The 4x400 relay teams took the top two spots, as Team A posted a time of 4:01.42 (Nixon, Dangerfield, Williams, and Heath), while Team B was not far behind with a time of 4:02.73 (Janzen, Neal, Jones, DeHorney).
Williams, Nixon, DeHorney and Johnson are running 60m, and Williams is running the 60m hurdles this week. DeHorney, Johnson and Nixon are running 200m.
Abagail Cavender is running 400m and competing in the long jump. Kelley is entered in the high jump, and Johnson is in the triple jump.
Heath, Neal, Hernandez and Dangerfield are running 800m. Perez, Pineda and
Ella Pando are competing in the one-mile event.
Williams is running in the 600y, and the Mustangs are entered in the 4x400m relays.
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and North Texas are among the schools competing along with Cameron, Oklahoma Christian, East Central, Langston, McMurry, Oklahoma Baptist, Ouachita Baptist, Science & Arts, Southern Nazarene and Southwestern Christian.
Midwestern State will also participate in the 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas, on Feb. 13 and 14 before the LSC Indoor Championships are staged in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Feb. 27 and 28.
