PITTSBURG, Kan. - Midwestern State Track & Field set a pair of school records, while recording five provisional marks this weekend in Pittsburg State's 11th Annual Russ Jewett Indoor Gorilla Classic at the Robert W. Plaster Center.
The weekend started with a pair of school records on Friday evening.
Shalisa Williams bested her own personal record in the 60mh, clocking the first sub nine second time in program history (8.96). Williams shaved .20 off their personal best, finishing 12 in the meet. Later, the Mustangs relay team of
Jadyn Dangerfield,
Jessie Heath,
Maggie Neal, and
Grace Pineda crushed the distance medley relay to take second place with a time of 11:45.41, reaching an NCAA DII provisional mark. The time is the fastest in school history, beating the previous school record set in 2014 by 20 seconds.
The following day, the Mustangs 4x400 squad also reached a provisional mark, with a time of 3:47.45. The team of
Kennedy DeHorney, Dangerfield, Neal, and Heath took home 9
th, while setting the fastest time for the Mustangs this season, and the third fastest time in the MSU Indoor Performance List.
Neal, Heath, and Dangerfield continued their strong performance in the 800m, each reaching a provisional mark. Neal led the Mustangs in the event, setting a personal record with 2:10.49 to take 3
rd. Heath was not far behind in 7
th, 2:11.91, also reaching a personal best.
Jadyn Dangerfield crossed in 11
th, 2:12.55, setting a personal best and provisional mark.
Hallie Kogler, 2:23.09 also recorded a personal record in the event, while Neal, Heath, and Dangerfield are all in the top-4 in the MSU Indoor Performance List for the event.
In the distance events,
Ella Pando was seconds from breaking her own school record in the 3000, recording a time of 10:10.54 to claim 11
th.
Perla Flores (10:26.80, 27
th) and
Isabel Hernandez (10:44.09, 35
th) both set PR's in the event. The pair also supplied career bests in the mile, with Flores running to a 5:26.10, and Hernandez recording a 5:29.57.
Kennedy Johnson posted a PR in the 200 meter, moving into 5
th for the MSU Indoor Performance List with a 25.17. Johnson also had a solid performance in the triple jump, leaping 11.58m (38' 0"), finishing in 8
th.
Kennedy DeHorney displayed an indoor personal record for the 200 meters (25.29),
Midwestern State now prepares for the Lone Star Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships; taking place on Feb. 27-28. The Mustangs will travel to Albuquerque, N.M. two-day championships, hosted at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
