Greyhounds sweep doubleheader at Mustangs Park

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Eastern New Mexico had an eight-run surge in the sixth inning of Game 1 and defeated Midwestern State, 9-1, in six innings to start the day at Mustangs Park on Friday. 

In the nightcap, Midwestern State rallied from a three-run deficit to force extra innings, but the Greyhounds prevailed in nine innings, 5-3.

Midwestern State is 14-29 for the season and 11-23 against conference opponents. Eastern New Mexico improved to 26-18 with a 19-15 record in the LSC, and the Greyhounds won three of four games with the Mustangs this season.

Midwestern State continues its 10-game homestand on Sunday as Western New Mexico visits Mustangs Park. The doubleheader begins at noon.

GAME 1 | Eastern New Mexico 9, Midwestern State 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

Eastern New Mexico took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning and then pulled away from the Mustangs with an eight-run explosion in the sixth inning. 

GAME NOTES

» Mikey Dominguez drove home the only run of the game for the Mustangs in the sixth inning as a sacrifice fly scored Sydney Linn.
» Addison Lindemann (6-14) threw 166 pitches over 5 1/3 innings and took the loss. 
» Midwestern State pitchers issued 10 walks and allowed nine hits.
» Sydney Linn, Jessika Roberts, Camile Nunez and Zoe Isom had the four hits for MSU.
» Eastern New Mexico was led offensively by sophomore Skylar Hardin, who went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
» Freshman Miranda Guillen led the Greyhounds pitching staff, throwing six innings of one-run ball.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Skylar Hardin hit a three-run home run off Kayleigh Bowers in the second inning, and the Greyhounds held on to the 3-0 lead until the Mustangs mounted a three-run uprising in the sixth inning. Jessika Roberts earned a bases-loaded walk to drive in the first run for MSU, and Camile Nunez delivered a two-run single to tie the game. The Greyhounds scored twice in the ninth inning as Grace Roffi and Aylene Lucero delivered RBI singles.

GAME NOTES

» Nunez, Linn, Dominguez, Emma Roach and Lexi Mills each had a base hit for the Mustangs, who were outhit 9-5 in the loss.
» Midwestern State left 12 runners stranded on base in the loss.
» Bowers (4-6) worked 8 2/3 innings, allowing five runs on nine hits with four strikeouts, and she only issued two walks.
» The Mustangs drew eight walks from Eastern New Mexico pitching.
» Nunez led the Mustangs at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
» Eastern New Mexico was led offensively by sophomore Skylar Hardin, who went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBIs.
» Freshman Miranda Guillen (13-5)  led the Greyhounds pitching staff, throwing 3.1 shutout innings to pick up her second win of the day.
