WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State second baseman Chipper Mayorga earned third team All-Lone Star Conference honors in her freshman season with the Mustangs.
Mayorga reached on an infield single in the first at bat of her collegiate career, and she started the season with an 11-game hitting streak. Mayorga had at least one hit in 15 of her first 16 games and hit .400 in that span.
The San Antonio native led the Mustangs with a .333 average, 51 hits, eight doubles and 59 total bases. Mayorga was second on the team with 23 RBIs. She successfully stole six bases on eight attempts.
Mayorga delivered the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh as the Mustangs completed a sweep of Sul Ross State with a 4-3 victory in the final homestand of the season.
Mayorga started all 50 games for Midwestern State and finished the season with 171 chances defensively and a .947 fielding percentage.
The softball all-conference awards are determined by vote of the league's head coaches, who select a 25-player first team with 16 recognized by position and nine at-large selections, followed by 15 players on the second and third teams.
