Javelinas sweep Mustangs in doubleheader

KINGSVILLE, Texas -- Junior Megan Ayala went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the Mustangs 8-3 loss in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Sophomore Emma Roach and senior Camile Nunez each collected three hits in Game 2, but the Javelinas prevailed, 11-7 at Hubert Field on Sunday afternoon.

Midwestern State is 6-19 overall this season with a 3-13 in the Lone Star Conference.

GAME 1 | Texas A&M-Kingsville 8, Midwestern State 3

Sophomore Addison Lindemann (3-7) allowed two earned runs on eight hits took the loss for the Mustangs, who surrendered five unearned runs in the loss and were outhit, 11-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mustangs were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Midwestern State scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Megan Ayala.
The Mustangs lost the lead they built in the second, but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 8-2. Senior Jessika Roberts came across to score the lone run of the inning for Midwestern State, which brought the score to 8-3 in favor of the Javelinas. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.

Bowers worked 1 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits with four walks. Isom pitched the final four innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits with six walks.

Nunez had a double and an RBI to lead the Mustangs. Roach added an RBI to her three-hit performance as well. Lindemann also chipped in for Midwestern State, putting together two hits in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Mustangs were trailing 4-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board.

The Mustangs deficit grew to 9-3 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the fourth inning. Midwestern State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Nunez, which tightened the Javelinas lead to 9-4.

Texas A&M-Kingsville expanded their lead to 11-4 before the Midwestern State offense got going, reducing that lead to 11-7 in the sixth. The Mustangs were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
