ABILENE, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Corinne Thorpe and
Nidhi Singh set school records as the Mustangs posted 10 personal bests and landed 17 performances on school all-time performance start Saturday afternoon in the Wes Kittley Invitational at Elmer Gray Stadium.
Thorpe smashed the previous school 100-meter record of 12.13 by 0.12 seconds to take an eighth-place overall finish at the meet.
But the senior from Grand Prairie needed every bit of effort to nose out teammate
Hailee Janzen, who clocked a 12.02 to finish ninth in the event.
Overall, the Mustangs placed five performances on the all-time list with sophomore
Karissa Nixon coming in in 12.18 (fourth on the all-time list), senior
Daiza Jones finished in 12.31 (seventh), and junior
Trell'Kyrah Watkins clocked a 12.40 (10th).
Singh, who is coming off of a banner indoor campaign, claimed another school record by winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.13 to eclipse the previous record which was set by
Daiza Jones last season by 0.01 seconds.
Watkins turned in the third fastest time in program history, finishing third with a 56.66, while freshman
Maggie Neal raced to the seventh-best time on MSU's all-time performance chart to take fifth in 58.01.
Sophomore
Jessie Heath led a strong showing by winning the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.52, which ranks third on MSU's all-time list, while junior
Jadyn Dangerfield finished third clocking a time of 2:15.97, the fifth fastest time in the program's annals.
Neal also paced third in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:50.67, which is the ninth best in program history and led a strong showing for the Mustangs in the event, followed by junior
Ella Pando (4:51.88/5th), Dangerfield (4:51.89/6th), and senior
Nathalia Escontrias (4:55.21/13th).
Sophomore
Jaycee Lyons cracked the all-time list at the 5,000-meter distance with a time of 17:55.04. The mark ranked sixth all time as she finished fourth in the race.
