Singh sets another school record at John Jacobs Invitational

Jones, Hanna also set school standards as 12 Mustangs set PRs

NORMAN, Okla. -- Midwestern State student-athletes amassed three school records and 12 personal bests Friday and Saturday at the John Jacobs Invitational.

Junior Nidhi Singh claimed her second school record in as many weeks by racing to a fourth-place showing in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.94. The mark eclipsed the previous standard held by Ana Lopez, who clocked a 2:14.03 in 2017.

The time is tied for 42nd on the Division II performance list and matched the third-best performance in the Lone Star Conference this season.

It came just a week after the Thane, India, native topped MSU's performance chart with a provisional qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles.

Junior Daiza Jones consolidated her hold as the top 400-meter runner in school history by taking ninth with a time of 57.05. The time was .08 seconds faster than the previous outdoor standard set by Jaylen Hogue (57.13) last season, but was not a personal best for Jones, who set the indoor mark earlier in the spring with a time of 56.44.

Singh also turned in the third fastest 400-meter mark in program history by finishing 16th with a 57.73. Freshman Jessie Heath followed with the sixth-best time in MSU history to take 19th with a 58.21.

Junior Delaini Hanna continued to raise the bar in the pole vault, resetting her own record by clearing 10 feet and 11 3/4 inches to take 11th at the meet.

Sophomore Ella Pando placed ninth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:54.52, which stands fifth on the program's all-time performance chart. It is the fastest time for a Mustang at the distance since Gabriella Ruiz and Michelle Krezonoski paced times of 17:45.22 and 17:40.70, respectively, in 2014.

Freshman Jaycee Lyons finished second in the 1,500-meter run with a PR of 4:43.27. The mark ranks fifth on MSU history and is the fastest since Lopez ran a 4:43.18 in 2017.

Sophomore Mariana Sanchez notched her second straight solid performance in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:51.20, while senior Peyton Lewis took fourth in the triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 38 feet, 6 inches.

Midwestern State competes in the Corky/Crofoot Shootout on April 26-27 at Texas Tech's Fuller Track & Field Complex.
