Track & Field begins outdoor campaign at Abilene Christian for Wes Kittley Invite

ABILENE, Texas – Midwestern State Track & Field begins the outdoor phase of the 2026 season this weekend, traveling to Abilene, Texas to compete in the Wes Kittley Invitational at Abilene Christian. The two-day event begins on Friday evening, Mar. 20, while concluding on Saturday, Mar. 21.

The Mustangs track & field program will compete in the Lone Star State for the first time this season. The two-day event will feature an opening day of field and distance events, while Saturday features a full slate of jumps, weights, sprinting, middle distance, and relays.
 
Programs from NCAA DI, DII, DIII, and several junior college programs will join Midwestern State at the Wes Kittley Invitational, including Lone Star Conference opponent Angelo State. Prior to the Friday's meet, the LSC announced the outdoor track & field preseason athletes to watch, with Jadyn Dangerfield and Kennedy Johnson earning recognition for Midwestern State.
 
To begin the meet Friday evening, 11 mustangs will compete in the 1,500 meters, with a total field of 29 athletes broken up into two heats. Jadyn Dangerfield and Grace Pineda both are taking part in heat one; both sit in the MSU all-performance list for the event in 7th and 8th place, respectively.
 
Midwestern State will also have a big contingent in the 800 meters, with 10 athletes competing in the two-lap race. The 32 runner field is broken up into four eight person heats, with Dangerfield, Maggie Neal, and Jessie Heath all setting top-10 marks in program history in the event last season.
 
To wrap up the event, the Mustangs will have four different teams competing in the 4x400 meter relay. MSU team "A" and team "B" will compete in section one, while the Mustangs "C" and "D" team will take part in section two.
