DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Midwestern State won its third straight dual match and began its Spring Break road trip with a 4-3 win over No. 23-ranked Embry-Riddle at Crotty Tennis Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mustangs earned the first point of the day with victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Jessica Binzari and
Anda Ghinga improved to 4-2 at No. 1 doubles this season with a 6-2 victory over Itxaso Blanco and Laura Cuesta Bret.
Hannah Yip and
Sarah Mazaraki clinched the point with their fourth win, defeating Maja Issler and Carla Cabero del Hie, 6-4. Yip and Mazaraki are 3-1 at No. 2 doubles this season.
Yip and Ghinga pulled out three-set victories for MSU in singles, and
Sofia Giraldo waltzed past Carla Cabero del Hierro of Embry-Riddle at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-3.
Giraldo is 5-2 in her freshman campaign and has won four matches for the Mustangs at the No. 4 position.
Yip won her third consecutive match, defeating 31st-ranked Maja Issler at No. 2 singles, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4. The junior from Malaysia is 3-0 in three-set matches and improved to 6-2 overall this season.
Ghinga remains undefeated in eight singles matches this season. The junior from Romania rebounded after losing the first set to defeat Laura Cuesta Bret at No. 3 singles, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. Ghinga is 8-3 in three-set battles during her career at Midwestern State.
Blanco got a measure of revenge for her loss in doubles by defeating Binzari at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4.

Skylar Minns dropped a match tiebreak at No. 5 singles to Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo of Embry-Riddle, 6-4, 4-6, 4-10, and Alessia Tripaldelli defeated
Micaela McSpadden of MSU at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Midwestern State is 6-2 in dual matches this season, while the Eagles fall to 8-3 and suffer their second loss in eight home matches.
The Mustangs travel nearly 60 miles south to Winter Park, Florida, for a dual match against Rollins at 1 p.m. CDT on Wednesday.
