ALPINE, Texas -- No. 14-ranked Midwestern State makes its first-ever visit to Lobo Soccer Field for a clash with Lone Star Conference newcomer Sul Ross State. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Mustangs are coming off a 0-0 draw with Dallas Baptist but are unbeaten in their last four matches. MSU is 8-1-3 overall with a 3-1-1 conference record and is trailing St. Mary's by two points atop the conference standings.
Midwestern State is 3-1-2 on the road this season and won its last away match, defeating UT Tyler, 2-1, at Citizens 1st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex.
The Mustangs have the second-best goal differential in the conference at plus-11 and lead the league with 28 goals this season. The Mustangs also lead the league with 2.00 assists per game and 80 total points.
Mere Escobar has scored 12 goals this season and is third-leading goal scorer in the country among NCAA Division II players. The senior from Austin, Texas, is tied with
Liam Pritchard for the team lead with five assists and is third in the nation with 29 points. Johannes Hanken Tjostheim of Mercy (NY) has 14 goals and 33 points to lead the nation in both categories.
Escobar has 56 career goals at Midwestern State and is the third all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the program. Only Alvin Alexander and Kris Henderson have scored more goals wearing the Maroon & Gold. Alexander netted 58 goals from 1975-1978, and Henderson scored 58 goals from 1987-1990.
Opponents have scored 1.42 goals per match against the Mustangs.
Daniel Robles has been the goalkeeper during the four-match unbeaten streak for MSU and is 3-0-3 this season. The 6-2 junior from Tyler, Texas, has a 1.35 goals-against average with 17 saves and a save percentage of .654 in seven appearances. Robles posted his first clean sheet against Dallas Baptist.

Michael Meachum is closing in on 100 career victories. In his seventh season at the helm, Meachum is 96-20-12.
Sul Ross State is 6-5-0 overall with a 2-2-0 record in its inaugural LSC campaign. The Lobos are 1-1-0 on their home pitch this season, suffering a 4-0 loss to Dallas Baptist in their last match at Lobo Soccer Field.
Since that loss to the Patriots, Sul Ross State has won back-to-back matches. The Lobos upended West Texas A&M, 2-0, and followed that up with a 3-1 victory at Lubbock Christian.
Zachary Trimming had a goal and an assist against Lubbock Christian on Wednesday night and leads the Lobos with four goals and nine points this season.
Carlos Gonzalez and Lewis Coates, who both scored against the Chaparrals, each have three goals this season. Gonzales and Mario Hurtado each have two assists for Sul Ross State.
The Lobos have scored 14 of their 16 goals in the second half of matches this season, including all three goals at Lubbock Christian. Sul Ross State has conceded eight first-half goals and eight goals in the second half of matches this season.
Freshman goalkeeper Benjamin Aviles made five saves at LCU and improved his record to 5-3-0. Aviles has appeared in 10 matches this season and allowed 14 goals with 42 saves. The Chilean has a 1.46 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage.
Bailey Guffin is in his second season at the helm of the Sul Ross State program and his third season as a head coach. He spent one season at Oklahoma Panhandle State before taking the reigns at Sul Ross State, and his career record is 11-23-6.
Midwestern State is idle until it visits West Texas A&M on Oct. 26 for a 1 p.m. match at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas.
