Mustangs set three school records, 20 PRs at David Noble Relays

SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Midwestern State broke three school records, while 15 Mustangs accounted for 20 personal bests in the David Noble Relays Friday afternoon at LeGrande Stadium.

Kennedy Smith, Asia Robertson, Corinne Thorpe, and Jaylen Hogue raced to a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay taking 0.10 seconds off of the previous mark finishing in 46.76 edging Texas A&M-Kingsville (47.38) as the top NCAA Division II finish.

The time is not only a school record, but is just 0.01 off the pace of Angelo State's top time for third-best in the Lone Star Conference. It is also just 0.03 short of an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time.

Robertson, a junior from Allen, Texas, broke through with a school record time of 24.82 (-0.2) to set a second school record while finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash. Robertson bettered the previous mark of 25.07 set by April Pena during the 2019 campaign.

The time would have been the fifth-fastest in the LSC heading into weekend competition.

Hogue set her third program record of the campaign by racing to a 12.13 in the 100-meter dash preliminaries, but Thorpe narrowly missed re-setting the mark by placing fourth in the finals with a 12.14.

Both times would have been among the top 10 in the LSC heading into the weekend.

Junior Elizabeth Butzke led a strong showing for the Mustangs in the 1,500-meter run placing third in the fast section with a season-best time of 4:53.42, while sophomore Arianna Carballeira set a PR of 4:59.16 to take seventh followed by Alexandra Feller (4:59.62/8th), Ella Pando (4:59.74/9th), and Mariana Sanchez (5:04.03/11th).

Sanchez won the first section of the 1,500-meter run earlier in the afternoon with a time of 5:03.93, while freshman Rosalene Reyes Perez (5:08.13/5th), Perla Flores (5:14.23/7th), and Sydney MacDonald (5:17.17/8th) also set personal best times.

The Mustangs were also strong in the 800-meter run led by sophomore Nathalia Escontrias, who finish fourth in the fast section with a season-best time of 2:17.27.

Meanwhile, Carballeira finished second in the first section with a PR time of 2:21.37, while Reyes Perez (2:30.04/12th) and Flores (2:35.30/18th) also had personal bests.

Sophomore Daiza Jones set consecutive PRs in the 400-meter dash pacing a 57.75 in the preliminaries before improving to a 57.67 to take fourth in the finals. Freshmen Jadyn Dangerfield Moore (57.98) and Trell'Kyrah Watkins (59.32) also qualified for the finals with personal best times of their own.

Senior Peyton Lewis finished fifth in the triple jump (36 feet, 1/4 inch) and sixth in the long jump (17 feet, 2 1/4 inches), while junior Emily Hurst was seventh in the high jump (4 feet, 9 inches).

Midwestern State competes in the East Texas Invitational on April 14-15 in Commerce.
