ARLINGTON, Texas -- Midwestern State is seeking a fourth consecutive dual-match victory, and the Mustangs look to remain undefeated in the Lone Star Conference as they visit Dallas Baptist at Arlington Tennis on Saturday. First serve is scheduled for noon.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with Dallas Baptist, 8-0, and the Patriots have never taken a point in a dual match against the Mustangs.
Luis Diaz Argente, ranked No. 50 in Division II singles, has won his last three matches in position No. 1 and is 9-8 overall in singles. Diaz is 3-1 against conference opponents this season.
Charles Heffernan and
Germano Setti have each won three consecutive matches for the Mustangs, and both players are 4-0 in the LSC this season.
Heffernan has only dropped one set at No. 2 singles in his four matches against conference foes and is coming off a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Takumi Katsuda of UT Permian Basin. Heffernan improved his overall record in singles to 8-8.
Setti has played twice at No. 4 singles, but he has been in the No.5 position for his last two conference matches. Setti handled Paul Schwieger of UT Permian Basin, 6-3, 6-1 in his last match for the Mustangs. Setti has won four of his last five matches and is 12-6 in singles this season.
Marcal Miret Avante had a five-match winning streak snapped with a 5-7, 6-4, 15-13 loss to Gregorz Rudnicki of UT Permian Basin. Miret is 11-6 in singles with a 3-1 record in conference matches. Miret has played No. 3 singles in 13 duals for the Mustangs this season and is 7-6 in those matches.
Killian Guillou, a freshman from Paris, France, has posted a 9-0 record in singles for Midwestern State and eight of his wins have come in straight sets. Guillou cruised to 6-0, 6-1 victory over Roberto Arrabal of UT Permian Basin at No. 4 singles last week.
Midwestern State is 29-22 overall in doubles with an 8-4 record in conference duals. The Mustangs have earned the doubles point in three of their conference duals this season.
Guillou and Heffernan are 3-1 as a doubles team against LSC opponents. The only loss was 7-5 setback against Martins Abamu and Herman Aguirre of Lubbock Christian.
Miret and Setti are ranked No. 26 in Division II among doubles teams and are 8-8 this season following a 6-3 win over Gregorz Rudnicki and Patryk Kosinski of UT Permian Basin.
Diaz is 11-6 in doubles this season and is 2-1 in his last three doubles matches alongside
Stephen Slocombe.
Slocombe is 7-6 in doubles having played with three different partners this season. The sophomore from Barbados is 2-1 with Diaz. The duo suffered a 6-2 loss at the hands of UT Permian Basin in the No. 1 position in their last outing.
Dallas Baptist is 0-6 in conference duals this season and has lost its last five dual matches, including a 6-1 loss to Lubbock Christian on Friday.
Dallas Baptist has been most successful at No. 2 singles, where the Patriots entered the week 16-6, led by Grant McKenzie. The fifth-year senior from Houston is 13-7 overall with a 10-2 record at No. 2 singles.
The Patriots are 13-7 at No. 5 singles, where they have used eight different players. Mariano Guzman is 4-0 in the No. 6 singles position, and Dallas Baptist is 13-9 as a team at No. 6 singles.
Dallas Baptist entered the week with a 38-30 record overall in doubles, and the No. 2 position is 16-6 in doubles. The Patriots have lost the doubles point in their last eight dual matches.
Midwestern State visits UT Tyler in a pivotal Lone Star Conference dual match on Tuesday. First serve at Summers Tennis Center is scheduled for 11 a.m.
