COMMERCE, Texas -- Midwestern State produced six event winners, eight personal bests, and set two school records Friday and Saturday at the East Texas Invitational inside of Memorial Stadium.
Jadyn Dangerfield Moore continued her sensational freshman campaign by winning the 800-meter dash by running the program's fastest time of the season with a 2:17.24 Saturday afternoon.
That came on the heels of a sensational start to the meet before the swift winds blew in behind a cold front Saturday morning.
Sophomore
Delaini Hanna improved her school pole vaulting record by six inches to 10 feet, 6 inches, while frosh
Trell'Kyrah Watkins produced a program best in her first attempt at the 400-meter hurdles finishing fourth with a time of 1:05.24.
Junior
Sydney MacDonald won the 10,000-meter run (40:54.47), while senior
Peyton Lewis struck gold in the long jump (17 feet, 8 inches) to build momentum for the Mustangs.
Senior
Elizabeth Butzke rolled to a win in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:11.51, while sophomore
Nathalia Escontrias fulfilled her own prophecy with a victory in the 1,500-meter run, finishing in 4:54.62.
Freshmen
Ella Pando (18:55.29) and
Mariana Sanchez (19:06.67) gave the Mustangs a one-two finish at the 5,000-meter distance.
Dangerfield Moore and Hanna highlighted a pack of eight PRs for MSU which included two more in the 800-meter run with
Cori Morgan pacing a 2:33.04 and
Isabel Hernandez running a 2:37.41.
Rosalene Reyes Perez (5:05.92) joined Sanchez (5:02.62) with personal best marks in the 1,500-meter run, while
Arianna Carballeira recorded a 1:04.61 in her first try at 400 meters.
Swift winds scrapped any opportunity for the Midwestern State sprinters to improve on PRs, but the Mustangs still produced a slew of solid times.
Senior
Jaylen Hogue placed third in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with wind-aided times of 11.95 (+3.7) and 24.83 (+2.3), respectively.
Asia Robertson (12.04/+3.7/4th),
Corinne Thorpe (12.09/+3.7/5th), and
Steveanna Hearn (25.42/+4.1/8th) produced Top 10 finishes in the 100.
Thorpe (25.08/+4.6/4th),
Daiza Jones (25.26/+4.6/6th), and Hearn (25.42/+4.6/8th) joined Hogue as top finishers in the 200-meter dash.
The Mustangs compete in Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Jacobs Track Complex in Norman.
