COMMERCE, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Delaini Hanna and
Trell'Kyrah Watkins set school records to lead the Mustangs to a strong opening Friday night in the East Texas Invitational at Memorial Stadium.
Hanna broke her own program-best mark in the pole vault by 6 inches, clearing 10 feet and 6 inches to finish fourth.
The 5-6 sophomore from Archer City matched her school record of 10 feet on her second try, then cleared the bar at 10 feet, 6 inches -- also on her second attempt.
Watkins, a freshman out of Dallas Kimball High, took more than a second off of the previous program record in her first effort in the 400-meter hurdles.
She placed fourth overall with a time of 1:05.24.
Senior
Peyton Lewis recorded a wind-aided mark of 17 feet, 8 inches to win the long jump, while junior
Sydney MacDonald won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:54.47.
Freshman
Perla Flores finished fourth with her first collegiate 10K effort with a time of 42:34.05.
The East Texas Invitational concludes with a full slate of events on Saturday.
