Hogue, Thorpe set school records at Oklahoma Baptist Invitational

SHAWNEE, Okla. -- Midwestern State's Jaylen Hogue and Corinne Thorpe set school records to lead a solid team performance with the Mustangs setting 13 personal records Saturday in the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational at the Eddie Hurt, Jr. Memorial Track.

Thorpe surged to a wind-legal time of 12.18 to take eighth in the 100-meter dash to better the previous program record by .03 seconds. The performance came a week after delivering an LSC-best, wind-aided time of 12.13 last week at the Wes Kittley Invitational.

The sophomore from Grand Prairie continues a stellar spring after running a team-best time of 25.22 in the 200-meter dash at the Kittley Invitational.

Junior Jaylen Hogue matched her indoor record 400-meter time of 57.13 to claim the program outdoor mark while winning the event Saturday afternoon, while freshman Jadyn Dangerfield Moore continued to show her distance versatility by taking fourth with a PR time of 58.98, which is sixth on the program's all-time performance chart.

Sophomore Nathalia Escontrias won the 800-meter dash with a team, season-best time of 2:18.87, while senior Elizabeth Butzke took second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:57.92.

Midwestern State's top 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Dangerfield Moore, Escontrias, Trell'Kyrah Watkins, and Taylor Carr combined to finish second with a time of 4:01.27, while the 4x800-meter crew of Daiza Jones, Mariana Sanchez, Britney Tyree, and Watkins took third with a time of 10:09.41.

Junior Asia Robertson led MSU's contingent in the 200-meter dash placing sixth with a time of 25.34, while Jones set a PR to take seventh with a time of 25.56 followed by Kierra Hicks (25.76/11th), Kennedy Smith (26.00/15th), and Taylor Carr (26.38/19th).

Sophomore Delaini Hanna matched her own school record by clearing 10 feet to take sixth in the pole vault.

FRIDAY NIGHT RECAP

Alexandra Feller continued to star for Midwestern State on opening night of the Oklahoma Baptist Invitational Friday on the Eddie Hurt, Jr. Memorial Track.

The senior from McKinney ran the fastest 5,000-meter time in seven years for the Mustangs while recording one of program's seven personal best times on Friday.

Feller paced the ninth-best time in program history by clocking an 18:16.71 to take seventh at the meet in what would have ranked fifth in the Lone Star Conference heading into the weekend.

It was the best 5,000-meter time for MSU since Sara Smith ran an 18:12.58 in 2016.

Sydney MacDonald (18:24.20/10th), Mariana Sanchez (18:45.91/11th), Ella Pando (18:46.42/12th), and Arianna Carballeira (18:59.62/15th) also set PRs in the 5,000-meter run.

Sophomore Nathalia Escontrias (4:53.87) and Jadyn Dangerfield Moore (4:58.13) also turned in personal best performances finishing sixth and seventh at the meet, while running times that would rank in the LSC's Top 10 going into the weekend.

Junior Elizabeth Butzke finished second in a field of seven in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:00.53 closing just behind Oklahoma Baptist's Kayla McGruder, who won with a time of 11:36.24.
