AZUSA, Calif. -- No. 25-ranked Midwestern State (8-3) continues its four-dual excursion in California against Fresno Pacific (3-4) at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. The start time is moved back to Thursday at 3 p.m.
Midwestern State won its only previous encounter with the Sunbirds, 5-4, when the schools clashed in 2014 at Las Vegas.
The Mustangs had a six-dual winning streak snapped with a 4-0 loss to 14th-ranked Azusa Pacific on Monday afternoon, but MSU returned to its winning ways on Wednesday with a 4-2 victory over Hawaii-Hilo at the Biola Tennis Center in La Mirada.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series, 2-0, and won the last meeting, 8-1, in 2018 at Las Vegas. In 2009, the Mustangs defeated the Vulcans, 6-3, as the two schools met in Glendale, Arizona.
Skylar Minns is 6-0 in singles for MSU with four victories coming in the No. 5 position.
Emilija Visic has opened the season with a 6-4 record in singles, playing nine matches in the No. 4 position and winning her only match at No. 3 singles. Visic had a four-match winning streak snapped with a 6-4, 6-2 loss to Vini Bautista of Azusa Pacific. Hikari Osaki of Hawaii-Hilo defeated Visic on Wednesday, 6-2, 6-1.
Sydney Williams has won her last five singles matches and improved to 5-1 on the season with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles against Casydee De Mattos of Hawaii-Hilo.
Amelia Lawson is 6-5 at No. 1 singles after dispatching Akari Ichikawa of Hawaii-Hilo, 6-0, 6-3, on Wednesday.
Alice Di Matteo has played all nine of her singles matches in the No. 3 position. Di Matteo posted a 6-3, 6-2 triumph against Nanami Okamoto of Hawaii-Hilo and improved to 6-3 for the season.
Minns and Visic are 4-0 as a doubles team after defeating McKenna Mountain and Lehua Jordan of Hawaii-Hilo, 6-4.
Visic improved to 5-1 in doubles overall. Visic has played with both Minns and
Hannah Yip this season.
Williams and Lawson are 4-4 at No. 1 doubles and suffered a 6-2 loss to the No. 4-ranked duo of Liga and Madison Kane at Azusa Pacific on Monday.
Di Matteo and
Kanaha Furutani are 6-4 as a doubles team, including a 4-4 record at No. 2 doubles and a 2-0 mark at No. 3 doubles.
Fresno Pacific is coming off a 7-0 loss to Point Loma in San Diego on March 6 .
Lea Falentin is 3-4 in singles and has played the No. 1 position in all seven duals for the Sunbirds.
Nayuma Subba is 3-4 and has played exclusively at No. 2 singles. Sanne Brull is 3-3 with all six matches in the No. 3 spot for Fresno Pacific. Audrey Oullet has played seven matches at No. 4 singles for Fresno Pacific and is 3-4.
Three different players have played the No. 5 singles position for the Sunbirds, but they are a combined 0-7 this season.
Four players have been in the No. 6 singles spot for Fresno Pacific and have a combined 2-5 record.
Fresno Pacific is 8-11 in doubles this season, led by the pairing of Subba and Elise Leik, who are 3-2 this year and have played all five matches at the No. 3 doubles position.
Midwestern State is scheduled to play Biola at the Biola Tennis Center in La Mirada at 2 p.m. central time on Friday.
