AZUSA, Calif. -- No. 15-ranked Midwestern State (7-6) will play its third of four duals in California against Fresno Pacific (1-5) at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex. First served was pushed back to 3 p.m. Central.
Midwestern State lost its only previous meeting with the Sunbirds when the two schools met in 2014 at Las Vegas. Fresno Pacific prevailed, 6-3.
The Mustangs have lost their first two duals on the road trip, including a 4-1 loss to Hawaii-Hilo on Wednesday.
Killian Guillou has opened the campaign with six consecutive victories in singles for the Mustangs, winning five matches at the No. 6 position. He also scored a victory at No. 4 singles, where Midwestern State is 10-3 as a team.
Germano Setti is 6-3 at No. 4 singles and had a five-match winning streak snapped with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Miha Velicki of Azusa Pacific on Monday. Setti suffered a 7-5, 6-3 setback to Joshua Liu of Hawaii-Hilo on Wednesday. Setti is 2-2 at No. 3 singles.
Marcal Miret Avante is 7-5 in singles overall, winning his only match in the No. 5 position and winning twice in the No. 4 spot. Miret is 4-5 at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Zen Yoshida of Hawaii-Hilo.
MSU is 6-6 at No. 2 singles this season.
Luis Diaz Argente is 3-2 in the No. 2 position, and
Charles Heffernan fell to 3-4 with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Luca Matheiowetz of Hawaii-Hilo.
Diaz is 2-5 at No. 1 singles and Heffernan is 1-3 in the No. 1 position for the Mustangs.
Diaz is coming off a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 loss to Filippo Di Perna of Hawaii-Hilo at No. 1 singles on Wednesday.
Juan David Duque is 4-2 in singles for the Mustangs and has won his last two completed matches. He is 3-2 at No. 5 singles and won his only match in the No. 4 position.
Duque and Diaz are 7-5 in doubles for Midwestern State, which is 20-17 in doubles matches this season.
Heffernan had a four-match winning streak in doubles snapped at Azusa Pacific and lost for the first time in four matches with
Killian Guillou as his partner. The duo suffered its second consecutive loss against Hawaii-Hilo at No. 3 doubles on Wednesday.
Miret Avante and Setti are 6-6 in doubles for the season.
Fresno Pacific is 1-5 this season and has a three-dual losing streak following a 7-0 loss to Hawaii Pacific at the Munson and Bavougian Tennis Complex in Azusa on March 9. The Sunbirds are 0-2 in matches on neutral courts.
Sophomore Ben Caronau won a three-set match at No. 1 singles on Feb. 15 against Patrick Wnuk of Holy Names for the only Fresno Pacific victory at the No. 1 position this season.
Three different players —Cronau, Brodie Sodersten and Joshua Wong have posted wins at No. 2 singles for the Sunbirds, who are 3-3 at the No. 2 position through six duals.
Fresno Pacific is 2-22 in No. 3 – No. 6 singles combined, and the Sunbirds are 6-30 in singles overall.
In doubles the Sunbirds are 5-10 overall with two victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles respectively. Martin Ramirez and Gregor Kliimask have the only win in five matches at No. 3 doubles.
The Mustangs face Biola at the Biola Tennis Center in La Mirada on Friday. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. central time.
