TOPEKA, Kansas -- Midwestern State senior Peyton Lewis improved on a program indoor record, while the Mustangs set seven more PRs in the final day of the Washburn Open Saturday at the WU Indoor Athletic Facility.

Lewis leaped 17 feet, 8 3/4 inches take eighth in the long jump to add two inches to her previous school record mark, while freshman Rylie Tipton set a PR with a mark of 16 feet, 4 1/2 inches to finish 14th.

Senior Jaylen Hogue led a group of three Mustangs advancing into the 60-meter dash preliminaries, and finished 12th with a time of 7.72 just ahead of teammates Steveanna Hearn (7.91/22nd) and Kennedy Smith (7.92/24th).

Sophomore Nathalia Escontrias turned in another strong performance by finishing sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.57 just off of her PR of 2:16.95 set earlier this season.

Senior Alexandra Feller led a group of three Mustangs setting PRs in the 1-mile run by placing 16th with a time of 5:24.11. She was joined by freshmen Mariana Sanchez (5:29.50/26th) and Rosalene Reyes Perez (5:35.77/34th).

Feller also set a PR time of 2:30.92 in the 800-meter dash.

Junior Elizabeth Butzke topped all MSU racers by taking 12th in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:21.02.

Sophomore Daiza Jones led the MSU charge in the 400-meter dash placing 18th clocking a 59.38. She was trailed by freshman Jadyn Dangerfield Moore (59.46/19th), Asia Robertson (1:00.03/27th), Da'shrana Sims (1:00.68/34th), and Taylor Carr (1:02.15/46th).

The times for Dangerfield Moore, Robertson, and Sims account for personal bests.
 

FRIDAY RECAP

Sophomore Nathalia Escontrias improved on her own school record to headline seven Midwestern State student-athletes to set personal bests on the opening day of the Washburn Open Friday at the WU Indoor Athletic Facility.

The Mustangs also advanced two sprinters out of the 60-meter qualification round, while senior Jaylen Hogue posted another NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time.

It all added up to a fulfilling day for the Mustangs.

Escontrias highlighted a group of five MSU runners to set PRs by taking second in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:27.93 taking 1.36 seconds off of her previous program record.

The Odessa native finished just head of sophomore Daiza Jones (1:29.22/3rd), freshman Jadyn Dangerfield Moore (1:29.48/4th), and freshman Da'shrana Sims (1:30.14/6th) while freshman Britney Tyree placed 16th with a time of 1:33.89.

Hogue didn't improve her mark in the 200-meter dash, but still delivered another strong performance finishing fourth overall with a 24.85. Freshman Kennedy Smith narrowly missed out on a PR finishing 19th with a time of 25.66, while freshman Steveanna Hearn (25.82/26th) and sophomore Corinne Thorpe (26.17/27th) both delivered personal bests.

Smith and Hearn both earned spots in Saturday's 60-meter preliminaries by finishing ninth and 15th, respectively, in qualifying heats with times of 7.87 and 7.91.

Senior Peyton Lewis placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 36 feet, 4 3/4 inches, while sophomore Delaini Hanna (9-4.25) took 10th in the pole vault.

Junior Emily Hurst and freshman Rylie Tipton placed 10th and 13th, respectively in the high jump both clearing 4 feet, 9 inches.
