WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Anda Ghinga of Midwestern State is the No. 29-ranked singles player in the first ITA Division II Women's National Singles Rankings released this week.
Ghinga is ranked No. 4 in the South Central Rankings behind Alessa Maier of Texas A&M-Kingsville, Selina Wu of St. Mary's and Muskan Gupta of UT-Tyler.
Ghinga sat out last season with a medical redshirt. In her sophomore campaign, Ghinga was 16-11 at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs and finished with a 3-5 record against nationally ranked opponents. The Romanian was the No. 6 seed and reached the Round of 16 at the ITA Division II Women's South Central Regional Championship and lost to ninth-seeded Wu, 6-4, 6-1.
Hannah Yip, who reached the quarterfinals at ITA Division II Women's South Central Regional Championship, is ranked No. 7 in the South Central Rankings. Gupta, the No. 5-seed, defeated Yip, 6-3, 6-2.
The junior from Malaysia was 8-14 in singles last spring and was 1-8 in three-set matches. Yip defeated Letizia Corsini of Angelo State, who was ranked No. 39 in the nation, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles in a 6-1 dual-match loss in San Angelo on March 25.
Jessica Binzari, who transferred to Midwestern State from Coker, is No. 9 in the South Central Rankings. Binzari was 18-2 as a sophomore at Coker and broke the school record for most singles wins in a season and earned All-South Atlantic Conference Singles Second Team honors.
Michelle Trochez of Lubbock Christian eliminated Binzari in the Round of 16 at the at ITA Division II Women's South Central Regional Championship, 6-3, 6-3.
Micaela McSpadden is tied for No. 20 in the South Central Rankings with Maya Adler of Lubbock Christian.
McSpadden defeated Emily Bo Meyer of Lubbock Christian, 6-0, 6-4, in the quarterfinals of the ITA Division II Women's South Central Regional Championship. The right-hander from Oologah, Oklahoma, advanced to the consolation final as Jenna Goessel of Cameron withdrew from the semifinals match due to injury.
Axelle Jacquemin and Anastasia Opolska of Lubbock Christian abandoned their semifinal match, so the consolation final was not played.
McSpadden was 10-6 in singles last spring with a 6-3 record against conference opponents. She defeated Opolska of Lubbock Christian, 6-2, 7-6 (5), in the LSC Tournament quarterfinals at No. 6 singles.
Ghinga and
Sydney Williams are tied for No. 10 in doubles South Central Rankings with Maier and Isabel Neumer of TAMUK.
Ghinga and Williams were eliminated in the Round of 16 at the ITA Division II Women's South Central Regional Championship by Sofia Teran and Isabella Rios of Dallas Baptist.
Williams was 15-7 in doubles last spring, playing all 22 matches at No. 1 doubles with
Amelia Lawson. In the spring of 2022, Ghinga was 22-6 in doubles, including 20-5 at No. 1 doubles. Ghinga was 18-2 with Yip at No. 1 doubles and 2-3 with Emilia Visic at No. 1 doubles.
