KINGSVILLE, Texas – No. 24-ranked Midwestern State (9-4, 1-0) opened the Lone Star Conference campaign with a 6-1 triumph at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday afternoon.
Camila Garcia posted a 7-5, 6-1 win over Andrea Landaeta to clinch the dual-match victory. Garcia has a four-match winning streak and upped her record to 10-1 at No. 3 singles for the Mustangs, who started the day by capturing the doubles point.

Jasmine Crain improved to 13-0 by defeating Ann Andersson Gomez and Kaitlin Blount at No. 2 doubles to give MSU the early advantage.
Crain coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Blount at No. 5 singles to put the Mustangs on the verge of victory in Kingsville. Crain has won four of her last five completed matches, and all four wins have been in straight sets. Her only loss in that span was a three-set decision after dropping the second set in a tiebreak to Esther Sura of Hillsdale.
Hattie Berend took the first set from Yasmin El Fadili, 6-3, and won via retirement as the Mustangs took a 2-0 lead in the dual match. Berend is 3-3 at No. 6 singles and won for the third time in four matches.
Berend and
Alessia Dolce remained undefeated at No. 3 doubles and were the first duo off the court after beating Landaeta and El Fadili, 6-3. Berend and Dolce have reeled off five consecutive wins as a pairing for the Mustangs.
Emilia Gyorgy extended her winning streak in singles to six matches with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles, defeating Guadalupe Tocci. Gyorgy is 9-4 in singles this season.
Gyorgy got a measure of revenge following a loss in doubles. Tocci and Maya Donker, ranked No. 41 in doubles, upended Gyrogy and
Selin Sepken, 6-3. The Mustangs fell to 9-4 at No. 1 doubles.
Sepken, ranked No. 6 in singles, overcame a loss in the first set to defeat Donker in a match tiebreak, 3-6, 6-2, (10-4). Sepken is 9-1 at No. 1 singles and extended her winning streak to four matches.
Andersson Gomez salvaged a point for the Javelinas with a 7-5, 4-6, (10-6) victory over
Alessia Dolce at No. 4 singles. Dolce had a three-match winning streak come to an end and is 6-5 in singles this season.
Midwestern State travels to Angelo State for a dual match at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
