WICHITA FALLS, Texas – No. 34-ranked Midwestern State is anxious to get back on the courts for dual-match action, particularly at the MSU Tennis Center, after losing a 4-3 decision to Angelo State last week. Lubbock Christian visits the Mustangs on Friday morning at 10 a.m., and UT Permian Basin will visit on Sunday for a dual match that gets underway at 9 a.m.
Midwestern State (9-5, 1-1) had a five-dual winning streak snapped with its loss in a see-saw affair at Angelo State last week.
The dual match was decided at No. 5 singles as Sasa Felixova upended
Jasmine Crain 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Crain had won four of her previous five matches for the Mustangs.
No. 6-ranked
Selin Sepken has a five-match winning streak and is 10-1 at No.1 singles for the Mustangs after defeating No. 13-ranked Margaux Rene of Angelo State, 7-5, 6-2.
Camila Garcia is also riding a five-match winning and is coming off a 7-5, 6-3 win over Danai Amangazhiyeva of the Rambelles. Garcia improved her record at No. 3 singles to 11-1 this season.
Emilia Gyorgy had a six-match winning streak in singles snapped with a 5-7, 1-6 setback to Vasilis Kupriianova of Angelo State. Gyorgy is 8-5 at No. 2 singles for the Mustangs.
Alessia Dolce is 3-3 at No. 4 singles and 6-6 overall in singles matches this season but is looking for her first conference victory of the season.
Hattie Berend is 3-4 at No. 6 singles, but the Wichita Falls native won two of her last three singles matches played on home grounds.
Midwestern State is 44-32 in singles matches this season and boasts an impressive 31-8 record in doubles, winning the doubles' point in 13 of 14 dual matches this season.
Garcia and Crain have been the most formidable duo at No. 2 doubles with a 14-0 record this season.
Berend and Dolce have put together a six-match winning streak at No. 3 doubles, where the Mustangs are 8-3 as a team.
Sepken and Gyorgy have faced five nationally ranked pairings, but they are 9-5 at No. 1 doubles, including three wins over highly ranked duos.
LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN (10-4, 3-1)
Midwestern State won five of its six all-time encounters with the Lady Chaps, including victories in each of their last three meetings. The Mustangs won the South Central Regional I title with a 4-2 triumph at MSU Tennis Center last spring.
Midwestern State is 2-0 when hosting Lubbock Christian, which fell to the Mustangs 4-3 during the 2024 regular season.
Lubbock Christian defeated Cameron on Thursday, 5-2, winning four singles matches and the doubles' point.
Lubbock Christian is 29-11 in doubles matches this spring with a 9-3 record against conference opponents. LCU won the doubles' point in 12 of 14 duals this season.
The Lady Chaps are 92-69 in singles matches this season with a combined 20-6 record at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Aitanna Moreno Villa has a four-match winning streak at No. 6 singles and is 6-2 this season. Kristel Jativa is 7-1 at No. 4 singles for the Lady Chaps.
UT PERMIAN BASIN (4-9, 0-3)
Midwestern State is 13-1 when facing the Falcons, and has a 13-dual winning streak in the all-time series. UTPB won the first-ever meeting in 1987, but MSU has dominated the series since 2014. The Falcons have won eight dual-match points in the last 13 encounters and were beaten 6-1 in Odessa, Texas, last spring.
Midwestern State is 4-0 when facing the Falcons at MSU Tennis Center, including a 5-2 victory the last time UTPB visited in 2023.
UT Permian Basin is coming off back-to-back losses at UT Dallas and UT Tyler, falling to 2-2 in away duals this season.
The Falcons are 26-42 in singles matches this season and just 2-16 in conference duals. UTPB is 6-6 at No. 3 and No. 4 singles but does not have a winning record at any other position in singles.
UTPB only won two of its nine doubles matches in the LSC and is 15-22 in all duals this season. The Falcons are 7-6 at No. 3 doubles, but a combined 8-16 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Midwestern State visits UT Dallas on April 10. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at UTD Tennis Complex.
