PITTSBURG, Kansas -- Midwestern State junior
Jaylen Hogue improved on a school record while earning an NCAA Division II qualifying mark Saturday afternoon in the Pittsburg State Invitational at Robert W. Plaster Center.
Hogue's performance was just one of 14 personal bests for the Mustangs and the first of two school record efforts as the 4x400-meter relay squad moved closer to a provisionally qualifying mark of its own.
Hogue took .01 seconds off of her previous best mark to run a 24.64 finishing second behind Mid-America Nazarene's Nikiwe Mongwe, who ran a 24.41.
The time matched the 16th-best in NCAA Division II coming into the weekend and was one of five PRs set by Midwestern State in the 200-meter dash.
Sophomore
Kennedy Smith placed 22nd with a 25.65 followed by sophomore
Daiza Jones (26.12/33rd), freshman
Trell'Kyrah Watkins (26.19/34th), and freshman
Da'shrana Sims (26.63/46th).
MSU 4x400-meter squad of Jones,
Jadyn Dangerfield Moore,
Nathalia Escontrias, and Sims placed sixth overall and third amongst a tight pack of three NCAA Division II opponents.
The time of 3:55.56 improved the school indoor record by nearly two seconds as the Mustangs narrowly finished the race behind Pittsburg State (3:53.84/4th) and Oklahoma Baptist (3:54.39/5th) just off the provisional time of 3:35.36.
Escontrias, who owned the top 800-meter time in the LSC coming into the weekend, delivered the fifth-best 1-mile time in program history taking 20th overall finishing in 5:16.92, while sophomore
Arianna Carballeira also set a personal best time of 5:29.22 to place 31st.
Senior
Peyton Lewis improved on her own MSU indoor record to place 10th in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 7 inches. She also placed 13th in the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet and 3/4 inches.
Junior
Emily Hurst cleared 5 feet and 3/4 inches to set a new program record while taking fifth in the high jump.
Dangerfield Moore added another strong showing in the 800-meter run by placing 14th with a time of 2:20.88.
Senior
Elizabeth Butzke's PR time of 10:35.51 not only earned her a 15th-place showing in the 3,000-meter run, but landed her eighth on the program's all-time performance chart.
Fellow senior
Alexandra Feller (10:43.68/20th) along with freshman
Mariana Sanchez (10:58.38/25th), junior
Sydney MacDonald (11:04.76/28th), and freshman
Rosalene Reyes Perez (11:05.70) also ran personal best times in the 3,000-meter run.
Midwestern State competes in the Washburn Open Friday and Saturday in Topeka.
