LUBBOCK, Texas -- Midwestern State's
Jaylen Hogue added a third school record to her laurels in the Corky Classic Friday night at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center.
The senior from Fort Worth clocked a 57.13 to take second in the 400-meter dash shaving 1.3 seconds off of the previous school record.
Hogue also owns program records in the 60-meter dash (7.61) and the 200-meter dash (24.65).
Her performance sparked personal best performances by all five Midwestern State student-athletes competing in the Corky Classic.
Sophomore
Nathalia Escontrias and senior
Elizabeth Butzke placed fifth and sixth turning in times of 3:06.63 and 3:07.34 in the 1,000-meter run posting the second- and third-best times in program history at the distance.
Running in the premiere heat, the duo placed behind New Mexico State's Thulisile Amon (3:00.47), New Mexico JC's Letlhogonolo Magoro (3:01.39), Texas Tech's Emma Bock (3:02.69), and Baylor's Hayden Gold (3:02.92) -- an order that held through all three heats.
MSU senior
Alexandra Feller, who also competed in the first heat, placed 20th overall with a time of 3:17.38.
Sophomore
Kennedy Smith recorded a personal best time of 25.83 to place 25th in the 200-meter dash. The performance is the fourth fastest in program history as the DeSoto native placed third in the opening heat which included Texas Tech's Zariere Dumas, who won the event with a time of 24.33.
Midwestern State's full track and field squad opens the spring semester Saturday at the J.D. Martin Invitational at the University of Oklahoma's Mosier Indoor Facility.
