Wichita Falls - Midwestern State was threatening to break through in a scoreless match, but lightning strikes in the area prevented the home opener with Texas Woman's from being completed Sunday afternoon at Stang Park.
The Mustangs were outshooting TWU 12-2 in their non-conference matchup and had taken all five shots in the second half. The game came to a sudden halt in the 67th minute when lightning was detected in the area. The two teams waited for nearly 90 minutes, hoping to resume play, but the match was suspended.
Both schools are hoping to complete the final 23:47 of the 0-0 match at a date to be determined. The two sides are scheduled to play a conference match on Oct. 26 at Pioneer Soccer Park in Denton.
Forward
Cassidy Savoy logged 57 minutes and put four shots on goal for the Mustangs. Defender
Keyara Zuniga also had a shot stopped by TWU goalkeeper Morgan Sherman, who had five saves when play was suspended.
MSU goalkeeper
Lexi Jackson was called upon to make two saves, denying Keely Chapman and Bri Luna in the first half.
Midwestern State will return to the pitch for a non-conference battle with Northwestern Okla. Kickoff is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m.
