WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State defeated Central Oklahoma at Stang Park on Sunday afternoon,1-0.
Sloane Sullivan converted the Mustangs only shot on goal, and
Lauren Short recorded four saves. UCO finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots.
The Mustangs extended their home unbeaten streak to 23 games. UCO only had three shots on goal, so MSU also extended its streak of not allowing more than five shots on goal to 23 games overall.
The Bronchos created the first sustained pressure, with
Lauren Short saving Jane Lockhart's shot at 4:59 before Greta Likens had an attempt blocked, Kaitlyn Cotton followed with another shot and UCO earned a corner at 10:22. The opening stretch also included multiple fouls and a yellow card to Sophia Sallusti at 11:37, keeping the half scoreless as play moved toward the midway point. Short made another save on Addison Guthrie at 26:19, and MSU generated its first look soon after when
Izzy Amphlett missed left at 29:51 before the Mustangs earned a corner at 29:57. UCO closed the half with another push, producing a corner at 35:49, shots by Megan Wilson, Dannae Gutierrez and Sophia Gaskins, and a final corner at 44:25, but MSU reached halftime tied 0-0.
MSU opened the second half with
Lexi Gonzales' shot at 45:33, then UCO earned a corner at 47:01 and recorded a Camila Mujica shot at 51:46 before Gonzales came back with another attempt at 52:08 and a Mustangs corner followed at 52:12. After
Sophie Ferro missed out top left at 56:53, and Sami Allen sent a shot out top right at 58:22, the half moved through a run of fouls from 59:00 to 62:54, capped by a red card to Sophia Sallusti. The Maroon & Gold went in front at 63:17 when
Morgan Countryman headed an intercepted goal kick into the middle and
Sloane Sullivan controlled it before scoring from just inside the penalty box for a 1-0 lead. The Bronchos later earned a corner at 71:23, and Greta Likens' shot was saved by Short at 73:48. Short stopped Kaitlyn Cotton's shot at 89:52 as the Mustangs closed out the 1-0 final.
