No. 21 Mustangs sweep Western New Mexico 7-0 in LSC road match

SILVER CITY, N.M. -- In their third 7-0 sweep of the season, No. 21 Midwestern State dominated Western New Mexico on Friday. MSU has yet to drop a Lone Star Conference match and owns a 14-4 record for the 2022 season.

Skylar Minns and Sydney Williams clinched their ninth consecutive match at the No. 3 line. The pair posted a 6-1 score over Caini Wang and Nicold Gonzalez. Minns and Williams are 13-4 for the season.


Anda Ghinga and Hannah Yip followed with a 6-0 shutout of Massiel Paredes and Julia Terrazas. The 35th-ranked duo has yet to lose at the No. 1 spot. They are 13-0 for the season.


Casie Curry and Emilija Visic closed doubles play. They posted a 6-2 victory against Livia Leite and Kajsa Gedlitschka. The pair ranks at No. 21 in the nation and has an 11-1 record at No. 2.


All three Mustang doubles teams are 2-0 in league play.


Ghinga kicked-off singles play with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Leite. The 30th-ranked sophomore moved to a 12-5 tally at the No. 1 spot. Ghinga
is undefeated in conference play.

Minns clinched an 11-5 record after beating Gonzalez. The No. 6 battle saw a 6-0, 6-2 score in favor of the MSU sophomore. Minns is 2-0 in LSC matches.


Curry secured a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3. The junior overtook Terrazas for her ninth consecutive match. Curry is 12-3 for the season and 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference.


Kyndall Quiroz claimed her first victory at No. 5 and her third of the season. In the sophomore's first match since Feb. 19, she took down Paredes by 6-3, 6-1. Quiroz is 1-0 in conference play.


Yip is 10-8 at the No. 2 spot. The freshman collected a 6-3, 6-4 score versus Gedlitschka on Friday. In the LSC, Yip has a 2-0 record.


Visic kept her undefeated streak alive after finding a win at No. 4. The sophomore beat out Wang by a 7-5, 6-2 score. Visic has 12 consecutive victories, including two league wins.


Midwestern State continues conference play on Saturday, March 26. They face UT Permian Basin. The Mustangs and the Falcons battle at Bush Tennis Center in Midland, Texas. First serve is set for noon.
