No. 21 MSU remains undefeated in LSC play after 5-2 win over UTPB

MIDLAND, Texas -- No. 21 Midwestern State has a 3-0 record in the Lone Star Conference. MSU secured a 5-2 win over UT Permian Basin in Saturday's match. The Mustangs are 15-4 for the season after the victory at Bush Tennis Center.

MSU won nine consecutive matches versus UTPB.

Skylar Minns and Sydney Williams beat Teodora Vrucan and Brooke Runyan 6-4 at the No. 3 line. The Mustang duo has ten consecutive wins to reach a 14-4 record.


Anda Ghinga and Hannah Yip followed with a 6-4 score against Lore Mewis and Lisa Guitton. The No. 35 pair remain undefeated for the season and claim 14 victories at the No. 1 position.


No. 21 Casie Curry and Emilija Visic had their nine-match streak snapped. Rhea Singh and Krystal Smith tallied a 6-4 win at the second spot.


Singh followed with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat of Yip at No. 2. Yip has a 10-9 record for the season.


Visic continued her streak with a 6-4, 6-0 score against Guitton. The sophomore is 13-0 after the victory at the No. 4 spot.


Curry claimed her tenth consecutive win. The junior battled Mewis to a 6-0, 7-6 (4-0) score. Curry has a 13-3 record in all singles play.


Minns pushed her record to 12-5 after the victory at the No. 6 spot. The sophomore beat Runyan 6-3, 6-2.


30th-ranked Ghinga collected her second win of the weekend at the No. 1 position. The sophomore went 6-3, 6-4 over Vrucan for her 13th victory of the season.


For UTPB's second point, Smith overcame Kyndall Quiroz at the No. 5 line. Smith tallied a 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 score to send Quiroz to a 3-3 season tally.


Midwestern State continues Lone Star Conference play next week. The Mustangs face Texas A&M-Kingsville on Friday, April 1, at TAMUK Tennis Courts. The first serve is set for 12 p.m. in Kingsville, Texas.
