WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- The 38th ranked Midwestern State opens the Lone Star Conference schedule with a 6-1 victory over the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith. The Mustangs ride an 11-match win streak to go 13-3 on the 2022 season.
MSU began on the right foot as they collected all three doubles battles.
Casie Curry and
Emilija Visic started with a 6-1 defeat of Chloe Ruppanner and Petra Csizmadia at the second spot. The 43rd ranked duo hold a 10-1 record without losing in the last eight matches. Ruppanner and Csizmadia are 1-4 for the season.
Anda Ghinga and
Hannah Yip followed with a 6-3 takedown of Bianca Koen and Joanna Potet. The 40th ranked pair is undefeated at 11-0 from the top doubles line. The Lion duo drops to a 1-3 record.
Skylar Minns and
Sydney Williams finished doubles play with a 6-3 score to overcome Camila Romero and Isabella Serrano at the third position. Minns and Williams have not dropped in seven straight matches and hold an 11-4 tally for the season.
Curry tallied her seventh consecutive victory with her 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Ruppanner. The junior is 10-3 overall and 8-2 at the fourth spot. Ruppanner falls to a 1-4 record on the year.
No. 42 ranked Ghinga found a 6-2, 6-1 win over Koen at the top line. The sophomore goes to 11-4 for the season's singles play. Koen has not secured a win at 0-5.
Yip followed with a tough victory at the second position. The 73rd ranked freshman went 7-5, 6-2 to overcome Potet. Yip is 9-7 for the year while Potet holds a 2-3 record.
UAFS clinched their only point at the third spot. Csizmadia defeated
Ethne Dowling by a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3 score. The Lion junior moved to 2-3 for the season while Dowling lost her second straight match. The junior is 6-5 overall and 5-3 at No. 3.
Visic kept her undefeated streak with a 6-1, 6-1 takedown of Jenny Zapien at the fifth line. Visic claimed Lone Star Conference Player of the Week last week and has ten wins for the season. Zapien holds a 2-3 record.
Minns finished the match on a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Romero. The sophomore has a 10-4 singles tally and is 7-4 at No. 6. Romero is 2-3 for the 2022 season.
Though Midwestern State concludes their home stand, the team looks to extend their run on the road for the next two weeks. MSU takes on Southeastern Oklahoma in Durant, Okla., on Wednesday, March 23. The Mustangs and the Savage Storm battle at Southeastern Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
