WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- In their first away match of the Lone Star Conference season, Midwestern State (4-2-1, 1-0-1 LSC) heads to San Antonio, Texas, to face St. Mary's (5-3, 2-1 LSC). The Saturday, Oct. 2 match kicks off at 5 p.m. at Sigma Beta Chi Field.

FIVE STORY LINES
1 | In seven matches, seven Mustangs have stepped up to tack their name on the scoresheet for 2021. Four players tied for top scorer with two goals including:
Cassidy Savoy,
Jewel Lewis,
Randi Heaton and
Lexi Beck. Savoy notched a brace against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/02) while Lewis gained hers against Regis (9/12). Savoy launched 11 shots with four landing on target in 259 minutes and Lewis has four shots on goal in 189 minutes. Heaton collected goals in back-to-back games versus Regis and East Central (9/18), claiming her game-winning goal against the Tigers with 18 seconds left to play. The senior has four shots and landed three on goal in her 479 minutes on the pitch. Beck tops MSU with 19 attempts and 11 on frame and five points on the year. The freshman notched tallies against Northwestern Oklahoma State (9/02) and Eastern New Mexico (9/29) where she added an assist. All four Mustangs are tied for eighth in the Lone Star Conference with one game-winning goal.
Juni Ejere and Eliza Merrion are front runners in St. Mary's goal race with four goals each. Ejere collected 12 shots with nine SOG while Merrion has 23 attempts and put 11 on frame.

Marissa Resendez and
Hayden Zuniga each have one goal to their name for the season. Cannistra registered the game-tieing goal against St. Edward's (9/25) and has the second highest shots on the team with 15. Resendez grabbed her first collegiate tally against Eastern New Mexico (9/29) and has eight shots thus far. Zuniga collected her first Mustang goal against her former team in Eastern New Mexico (9/29) and is 1-1 in penalty kicks.

Taylor Camp is solid in the net for Midwestern State as she ranks fifth in the Lone Star Conference with 669 minutes played and second with a 0.896 save percent - which ranks 28th in NCAA Division II. In all, Camp has 43 saves to gain fourth in the LSC and sit 26th in the nation. The keeper recorded a career-high ten stops against East Central (9/18) to help the Mustangs to a double overtime victory and notched nine saves in the next match against St. Edward's (9/25). Camp's saves per game averages out to 6.14 and is second in the conference. Camp has three shutouts on the year and has faced 92 shots in seven matches. Currently, she sits tenth on MSU's all-time record book for saves with 89 in her two years at Midwestern State. Camp's six career wins is tied for 11th in the books while her four shutouts are level with Mindy Chaky (1997) and Sara Fusco (1998) at eighth.
Rebecca Difronzo is the go-to keeper for StMU with seven starts in eight games. The freshman is 4-2 on the season with two shutouts. She also completed 30 saves against 73 shots to earn a 0.857 save percent. Difronzo's GAA sits at 0.71 after allowing five goals.
4 |Â Seven matches into the season, MSU has amount 11 goals, matching their total from the full 2020 season. The team has held opponents to five goals and an average of 0.71. In addition, Midwestern State landed 121 shots versus the opposition's 92 for 17.3 per game versus 13.1. The Mustangs are also 2-2 on PKs for the year and outshine on corner kicks 39 to 23.

HEAD COACH RYAN SPENCEÂ begins his fourth season as head coach at his alma mater. In the 2020 season, he led the Mustangs to the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. As a player, Spence helped the Mustangs dominate in his four years on the field. He earned All-American from 2008-11 and helped the team reach the Final Four in 2010. His center back prowess assisted in gaining 35 shutouts in his tenure. After graduating with a bachelor's degree, he gained his masters from MSU in 2014-15. From there, Spence moved on as assistant coach at Texas A&M International in 2016 and head coach at Eastern New Mexico in 2017 before coming back to Midwestern State in 2018.

SERIES WITH THE RATTLERS
Midwestern State owns a slight advantage over St. Mary's with a 6-5-2 record, beginning in 1995. 2019 was the first time the two teams battled in a conference match and the Rattlers walked away with a 1-0 win in San Antonio, Texas. On the road the Mustangs are 3-3, last claiming a victory in 2015 when Morgan Hannon and Callie Brisco claimed goals against StMU.
