WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State improved to 7-0-0 and still has not conceded a goal this season after defeating Texas A&M International, 2-0, at Stang Park on Wednesday night. Sloane Sullivan scored an early goal, and Lauren Short was only called on to make two routine saves in the second half.
Midwestern State out shot the Dustdevils, 22-5, and put six shots on goal.
In the first half, the Mustangs took 13 shots and only allowed TAMIU one shot in the first 45 minutes. Madison Brinkley took a shot in the fifth minute from the left side of the penalty box. The deflected shot landed at Sullivan's feet, and the junior forward from Keller, Texas, scored her third goal of the season. Sullivan is tied with Lexi Gonzales for the team lead in goals scored.
The Mustangs earned their third corner kick of the match in the 39th minute, and Leeci Snyder's service from the left corner arc led to Bella Rose's first goal of the season. Snyder has four assists this season, tied with Gonzales for the team lead. Rose became the 14th different Mustang to score a goal this season.
Midwestern State, which is 3-0-0 in conference play, extended its home unbeaten streak to 25 games, and the Mustangs have not allowed an opponent to take more than five shots on goal in any of their last 26 games. Arianna Arboleda and Milly Garcia had the only two shots on goal for the Dustdevils, who fell to 1-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the Lone Star Conference.
The Mustangs lead the all-time series with TAMIU, 7-0-5, and snapped a streak of five consecutive draws in the series.
Midwestern State is outscoring its opponent this season 23-0, which is the best goal differential among NCAA Division II programs, and the Mustangs have the fifth most goals scored in NCAA Division II.
Midwestern State is on the road to play UT Dallas in its next game on Saturday night. Kickoff at UTD Soccer Complex is scheduled for 7 p.m.
