WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State extended its winning streak to six games on Saturday afternoon with an 8-0 thrashing of Eastern New Mexico at Stang Park and has not conceded a goal this season. MSU looks to extend its home unbeaten streak to 25 games as it hosts Texas A&M International on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. 

The last time Midwestern State started the season unbeaten in its first six matches was 2009, when the Mustangs started the season with a 9-0-1 record. The 2009 team had a six-game streak without allowing a goal but played a 0-0 draw with Incarnate Word after winning three-straight with a clean sheet. Midwestern State set the school record for shutouts in a season with 11 during that 2009 campaign and finished the season with a 13-5-2 record.

Midwestern State (6-0-0, 2-0-0), which is off to its best start in nine seasons under head coach Ryan Spence, is outscoring its opponents 21-0 and has the best goal differential among NCAA Division II programs. The Mustangs have scored the fifth-most goals in NCAA DII and are eighth in the country with 3.5 goals per game. 

Thirteen different players have scored goals for MSU with Lexi Gonzales leading the team in both goals and assists. The senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, has three goals and four assists for 10 points, which is fourth in the Lone Star Conference.

Sloane Sullivan, Madison Brinkley, Ashlynn Knight, Binky Mendez, McKynzi Hailey and Bella Pillow have all scored twice. Leeci Snyder, Ella Adams, Izzy Amphlett, Morgan Countryman, Allie Cifuentes and Sophie Ferro have all scored once this season.

Sullivan is second on the team with seven points, while Brinkley, Knight, Mendez and Snyder all have five points. Midwestern State is third in the nation and leading the LSC with 65 points in its six matches. 10.8 points per game is fifth most in the country and second in the LSC.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Short has played the full 90 minutes in all but one game this season. Tanner Sorenson manned the goal for the final 45 minutes on Saturday after MSU had established a 5-0 halftime lead over the Greyhounds. Short made the only two saves of the match. The Frisco, Texas, native has 11 saves this season. 

Midwestern State outshot Eastern New Mexico, 36-2. The Greyhounds put both of their shots on frame in the first half, but the Mustangs have not allowed any opponent to take more than five shots on goal in their last 25 games.

Snyder scored a goal and had two assists in the win over the Greyhounds and was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week. Snyder assisted on Sullivan's goal in the 18th minute before setting up Brinkley's goal with a long throw in the 55th minute. Snyder scored on an indirect free kick in the penalty box, assisted by Marlene Myrvold in the 61st minute.

Midwestern State is 6-0-5 in its all-time series with Texas A&M International with the last five meetings all resulting in a draw. Last year, MSU scored in the 49th minute and held the lead until the 90th minute, when Valeria Olivas Maldonado scored the equalizer for the Dustdevils in Laredo, Texas. It marked the fourth straight season that the two sides played to a 1-1 draw. In 2021, TAMIU overcame one-goal deficits twice and played the Mustangs to a 2-2 draw at Stang Park.

Midwestern State won its first seven encounters with the Dustdevils by an aggregate score of 30-1. The Mustangs are 2-0-2 when hosting TAMIU, which has not visited MSU since 2023, when the Mustangs were 5-1-3 at home. 

Since the 2023 season, Midwestern State is 23-1-7 at Stang Park and has won its last six home matches, dating back to a 2-1 victory over UTPB in October of last season. The Mustangs last loss at home was a 3-1 setback against Dallas Baptist on Oct. 21 of 2023. MSU has gone 1,060 days without a loss on its home ground.

Texas A&M International (1-4-0, 1-1-0) is coming off its first win of the season, scoring a 1-0 victory at Angelo State on Saturday as Tatiana Perez Lluis scored her first goal of the season in the 87th minute. 

TAMIU has been outscored 8-3 this season. Milly Garcia and Lucia Ana Arroyo Azofeifa are the other two Dustdevils to find the back of the net this season. Isabella Gonzales and Ida Kolaric have the only two assists for TAMIU through five matches.

Goalkeeper Maria Melendez has played the full 90 minutes in all five matches this season and has a .636 save percentage with a goals-against average of 1.60.

Midwestern State visits UT Dallas in Richardson, Texas, on Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
