ABILENE, Texas – The 22nd-ranked MSU Texas men's tennis team rolled through the competition on Friday, rattling off a pair of 9-0 wins over McMurry and Hardin-Simmons in Abilene.
In the first match of the day, the Mustangs made a clean sweep of McMurry, 9-0. MSU made quick work in doubles, dropping only four games total in pairs play. The duo of
Alex Martinez Roca and
Angel Palacios swept Chris Causer and Joseph Diaz, 8-0, before
Dillon Pineda and
Nolan McCaig bested Carlos Martinez and Andrew Hallowell, 8-1, at the No. 1 line. The Mustangs' No. 2 tandem of
Vasudev Vijayaraman and
Denney Norrie beat Clayton Pope and Zach Miller, 8-3, to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Maroon and Gold never looked back in singles, winning in straight-sets on all six courts. McCaig brushed past Pope, 6-0, 6-0 and Palacios handled Pope, 6-0, 6-1 to clinch the match for MSU. Martinez Roca defeated Diaz, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 before
Jean Muniz took down Miller, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5. Vijayaraman completed the sweep, besting Martinez, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1.
It was much the same for MSU in the second match, rolling to a 3-0 lead after doubles. In singles, the Mustangs lost only eight games and won in straight-sets on all six singles courts.
