THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Senior Trip Hobson carded three quality rounds to claim top individual honors while leading Midwestern State to a MSU Invitational championship Tuesday afternoon at The Wichita Falls Country Club.
 
It's the second time the Mustangs claimed win in their home tournament, while Hobson is the second MSU player to claim individual victory. Former All American Derek Oland claimed the 2013 title, while Midwestern took its only other team title in 2012.
 
Hobson did it by excelling at both the shorter and longer holes going 3-under for the tournament on Par-3s and 4-under on the Par-5s. All told, the Crockett, Texas native amassed 11 birdies while piling up 36 pars, but none were more important on than the last.
 
Hobson drained a 5-footer to get up and down on the 18th hole to hold off the hard charging Nicholas Tenuta. The Regis standout fired a final round 68 to finish within a single stroke of the lead. Hobson's scores of 69, 70 and 70 for a 4-under total of 209 were enough to claim his first collegiate win.
 
Hobson was joined on the all-tournament team by junior Clayton Keck, who carded scores 74, 67 and 72 for an even-par 213.
 
Junior Clayton Meyers also notched a Top 10 showing finishing seventh with scores of 72, 69 and 74 for a 1-under total of 215, while fellow junior Chance Craig tied for 15th (73-71-73 217/ 1). Freshman Jake Doggett placed 72nd with an 18-over total of 234 (78-73-83).
 
Midwestern State logged team totals of 288, 277 and 289 for a 2-over 854 to win by seven strokes over Texas A&M-Commerce (289-284-288 861/ 9).
 
Junior Simon Ospina (70-80-76 226/ 10) and freshman Conrad Rafferty (80-67-79 226/ 10) led a group of four MSU individual medalist performers tying for 48th. Freshman Tayden Wallin (75-79-75 229/ 13) and junior Kevin Teems (74-76-79 229/ 13) tied for 58th.
 
NOTES
- The MSU Invitational All-Tournament team consisted of: MSU's Trip Hobson and Clayton Keck, Regis' Nicholas Tenuta, Southeastern Oklahoma's Zach James and Texas A&M International's Parker Holekamp.
- Midwestern State claimed its first team win since claiming victory at the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Classic last spring. It was the program's 13 overall team tournament title.
- Senior Trip Hobson is the seventh MSU golfer to claim an individual tournament win joining Derek Oland (10), Jared Baker (3), Santiago Gomez (2), Chad Bryant (1), Mitch Molen (1) and Thomas Smith (1).
- Hobson has posted par-or-better scores in five of his eight rounds this season.
- Keck has par-or-better scores in three of his six tournament rounds this season including two in the 60s.
- Junior Clayton Meyers notched his second collegiate Top 10 showing finishing seventh. He also carded his third career round in the 60s.

Midwestern State wraps up the fall portion of the schedule next week at the Cameron Invitational played at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan on Oct. 23-24.
