Midwestern State garners All-LSC recognition

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's Sarita Adhikary, Lauren Pineda and Fatima Clementino were honored by the Lone Star Conference on Thursday as the trio was named to the All-Lone Star Conference Tennis Team.
 
Adhikary, a senior from Kathmandu, Nepal, collected All-LSC honors in singles playing as the Mustangs No. 1 player.
 
Adhikary also teamed with Pineda, a freshman from Allen, Texas, to post an 8-2 record playing No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and claim All-LSC accolades in doubles.
 
Clementino, a junior from Bursa, Turkey via Lubbock, Texas/Frenship High, was chosen by the conference coaches as the LSC's Newcomer of the Year.  She posted a 12-1 record in singles (8-0 at No. 6) and was 9-5 in doubles.
 
Midwestern State also had three women selected as All-LSC honorable mentions.  Sophomore Taylor Coffman of Houston, Texas/Northland Christian, freshman Madline Schorlemmer of Argyle, Texas and Kayla Casey of Franklin, Texas, were selected to the squad.
 
Additionally, Adhikary was named to the LSC's All-Academic Team.
 
The Mustangs finished the regular season with a 15-5 overall record and were second in the Lone Star Conference at 4-1.
 
A trio of women were named the Lone Star Conference Players of the Year, as Abilene Christian's Julia Mongin, Cameron's Julia Puckhaber and Tarleton State's Karla Martinez shared the honor.  All three were named All-LSC in both singles and doubles as well.
 
Also named to the All-LSC team in singles were Tarleton State's Alicia Perez and Melanie Barnes, Cameron's Amanda Moberg, Incarnate Word's Ivana Katavic and Nicole Karaklis, and Abilene Christian's Micah Hermsdorf, Brittney Reed and Laura Mongin.
 
Named to the team in doubles were ACU's Brittney Reed and Julia Mongin, along with teammates Hermsdorf and Hannah Kelley.  Tarleton's duo of Martinez and Perez joined Cameron's Puckhaber and Moberg, and UIW's Katavic and Andi Botha.
 
The LSC Sportsmanship Players of the Year were shared by Tarleton's Perez, Cameron's Puckhaber and ACU's Laura Mongin, while the ACU's Kaysie Hermsdorf was named the LSC Freshman of the Year.  Abilene Christian's Hutton Jones won LSC Coach of the Year honors.
 
The Lone Star Conference Championships open on Friday with opening round and semifinal play.  The championship match is Saturday at noon.  MSU has a bye to the semifinals at 6:30 Friday evening against the winner of the Tarleton State vs. Texas A&M-Kingsville match that will be played at 1:30 on Friday.
