Mustangs win fourth straight dual match, defeat Hawaii Hilo 4-1

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State won its fourth consecutive dual match in a span of six days with a 4-1 triumph over Hawaii Hilo at MSU Tennis Center on Wednesday morning.

Midwestern State improved its record to 8-4 when Alessia Dolce clinched the dual match victory over the Vulcans with a 6-0, 7-5 triumph. Dolce won five straight games in the second set to secure the straight-set win over Mila Srebro at No. 4 singles.

Dolce has a three-match winning streak and has not dropped a set in that span, winning two tiebreaks against Julia Zlateva of Hillsdale on Monday.

No. 4-ranked Selin Sepken continued her impressive run at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Pia Starnecker. The fifth-year senior from Turkey improved her singles record to 8-1 with her third straight victory.

Sepken and Emilia Gyorgy started the dual with a 6-2 win over Starnecker and Victoria Ricaurte-Cabas at No. 1 doubles. Sepken and Gyorgy won for the fifth time in their last six dual matches and improved their season record to 9-3.

Gyorgy defeated Johanna Roggenkamp at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3. The freshman from Hungary extended her winning streak in singles to five matches, improving her record to 8-4 this season.

Jasmine Crain and Camila Garcia secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Marie Cordonnier and Mila Srebro at No. 2 doubles. Crain and Garcia, the two-time LSC Women's Doubles Team of the Week winners, remain undefeated this season with a 12-0 record.

Garcia was on the verge of a straight-set win at No. 2 singles but her match with Anna Takahshi was abandoned with Garcia leading, 6-4, 5-1.

Crain held a 6-3, 4-3 lead over Ricaurte-Cabas at No. 5 singles when the celebration began for the Mustangs.

Midwestern State, which is 4-0 at home this season, gets a well-deserved break before beginning conference play on March 27 at Texas A&M-Kingsville.
