WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's backcourt combo of
Jason Ebie and
Craig Green proved too much for Eastern New Mexico as the 6th-ranked Mustangs rolled to a 76-57 Lone Star Conference South Division win Saturday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The Mustangs extended the nation's fifth longest winning streak to 25 games while improving its season record to 22-2.
MSU also kept pace with Tarleton State in the South Division race as the Texans defeated West Texas A&M 56-54 in Stephenville. Tarleton joined Midwestern with matching 7-2 divisional marks.
Green, the reigning LSC South Offensive Player of the Week, connected on four treys on his way to a game-high 22 points and added four rebounds, three assists and three steals while Ebie, a senior from Houston, dropped in a career-high 20 points and completed an all-around night with seven rebounds, five assists and five steals.
The duo played a key role as the Mustangs put the foot on the gas to open up a double figure lead less than five minutes into the contest after
Chris Hagan hit a 15-foot jumper with 15:37 to go.
The lead would mushroom to 43-25 when Green hit his third 3-pointer of the game in transition with 59 seconds to play until halftime.
The Mustangs kept on the accelerator in the second half and pushed the lead to a game-high 31 when Green fingered rolled a dunk attempt to give MSU a 71-40 advantage with 6:44 to play.
It would be all trash time from there.
Hagan gave Midwestern a third guard in double figures with 13 points and six assists, while junior forward
Charlie Logan added nine points, six rebounds and three blocks and
Anthony Moore had four points and six rebounds to round out the starters' contribution.
Only two reserves hit the scoring book for the Mustangs as senior forward
Rashad Austin had five points and five rebounds to go along with four blocks while sophomore
Melvin Clark connected on a 3-pointer.
Eastern New Mexico was paced by Equs Darby, who completed a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
Midwestern State hits the road to face Texas A&M-Kingsville Wednesday night at Steinke Center. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
The Greyhounds slipped to 8-15 and 3-6.
