#10 Midwestern swats Bulldogs 89-70 to improve to 12-0

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's Craig Green and Anthony Moore combined for 37 points to lift the 10th-ranked Mustangs to an 89-70 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State in Lone Star Conference crossover play Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

With the win, the Mustangs match the best start in program history at 12-0 while extending MSU's home-court and regular season winning streak to 18 games.

Midwestern also closes the 2009 calendar year with a strong 30-3 mark as the Mustangs closed 2008-09 season with an 18-3 mark and advanced to the NCAA Division II South Central Regionals last season.

Moore, who finished with a career-high 18 points and pulled in seven rebounds, ignited an early 10-0 run with a pair of layups before Rashad Austin and Green followed with traditional three-point plays as the Mustangs constructed a 16-6 lead less than four minutes into the contest.

Green finished with a game-high 19 points on 5-of-11 shooting including a pair of 3-pointers and went 7-of-9 from the charity stripe. The senior from Keller also dished out five assists.

Midwestern led by as many as 19 after Austin converted a nice pass by Michael Godwin for a layup to put the Mustangs up 32-13 with 10:44 to go until halftime.

Austin finished in double figures for the fifth-straight game 12 points and pulled in nine rebounds. The 6-8 forward also tied a season high with five blocked shots as the MSU swatted a season-high 11 shots as a team.

Junior forward Charlie Logan also finished in double figures with 10 points and got in on the block party with three rejections.

Southwestern Oklahoma closed to within 42-30 at the half, but was unable to get any closer than 10 in the second half as the Mustangs pulled away for a game-high 89-66 lead after Aboubakar Wandji hit a pair of free throws with 1:44 to play.

The Bulldogs (4-9) were led by Damian Henderson, who had 19 points and seven rebounds, while Charleston Flemmings added 18 points five rebounds and three assists.

Midwestern State returns to action on Jan. 2 when the Mustangs play host to Dallas Christian at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
