DENTON, Texas – Midwestern State scattered five hits and scored three runs in the fifth inning as the Mustangs came away with a 3-1 win over Texas Woman's University in Game 1 Wednesday night at Pioneers Field.

The Mustangs legged out 13 hits and freshman Brittany Tanner limited Texas Woman's to one run on four hits in five innings of work to improve to 3-6.

MSU ace Katie Petersen came on to pitch the two hitless innings to earn her second save of the season. Petersen struck out three and walked none.
