DENTON, Texas – Midwestern State scattered five hits and scored three runs in the fifth inning as the Mustangs came away with a 3-1 win over Texas Woman's University in Game 1 Wednesday night at Pioneers Field.
The Mustangs legged out 13 hits and freshman Brittany Tanner limited Texas Woman's to one run on four hits in five innings of work to improve to 3-6.

Katie Petersen came on to pitch the two hitless innings to earn her second save of the season. Petersen struck out three and walked none.
The Mustangs were unable to get to Texas Woman's starter Carly Case early as
Lindsey Voigt stumbled on her way to the plate and was unable to score on
Maranda Bishop's single to center field.
Voigt then left the bases full in the second inning allowing TWU, who scored a single run on Billie Callahan's single to center field scored Tiffanie Boone.
Case fell to 7-11 after allowing four runs on 16 hits. The freshman from Bowie struck out six and walked two.
Tabitha Yannetti and Bishop paced the Mustangs' attack with three hits each, while Voigt,
Lauren Craig,
Amanda Potysman and
Ashley Kuchenski added two hits apiece.
The Mustangs improved to 22-12, while Texas Woman's University dropped to 10-25.
